Parental Control: App control does not work

I was trying the parental control features today on my Murena Two device. I set the app control to always ask for the control PIN. Nevertheless, I was still able to install apps without being asked for the PIN. I only tried to install F-Droid apps so it might be linked to this but I’d expect that also F-Droid apps should be blocked by this settings. Is there a general bug?

I’d think F-Droid or any other store client is out of scope. Restrictions are enforced at the AppLounge level. PC in AppLounge actively blocks installing 3rd party stores - see the blocklist-app-lounge link in Contributing to the Parental Controls - #6 by tcecyk

This is a misunderstanding. I did use the default App Lounge to install the apps. I wanted to clarify that I only installed F-Droid based apps via App Lounge, no Google apps. My expectation would be that ALL apps (Play store, F-Droid and PWAs) are blocked with the setting.

I now tried the app control on a Sony Xperia XZ2. Same result: App installation works without being asked for the PIN/password.

too bad, if you think this is a bug or is needed as feature, go to the issue tracker then. Demo screencaptures work well.

Though looking at the PC docs, it seems like App installs go fine if the age rating is appropriate (emphasis mine)?

Apps can only be installed if the app’s content rating matches the child’s age set during Parental Control setup OR if the parent enters the PIN/password if they decided to approve any app installation.

The age rating should not apply if the latter option is set. At least that’s my understanding of the cited documentation.

that OR suggests otherwise, but only if one of the first mode is chosen.

I went for “When installing any app.” and AppLounge would still install VLC (from F-Droid) and start… uh, bug?
