[POLL] Are you still using Google Apps?

With the recent problems with Google Apps, I noticed that many /e/OS users still use these apps. Time for a poll :

Are you still using Google Apps?

  • No, I’m completely Google-free
  • Yes, but I need to use it for professional (or other) activities
  • Yes, but I haven’t found a (solid) alternative yet
  • Yes (other reason)

I think i don’t need microG, but cannot disabble it in recent versions

As far as I remember, I actually never used a Google account to install an app, and probably never installed a Google app in any other way (I am putting it in such a complicated way because I briefly had a rarely used “Google +” account many years ago … ).

If I use Cloud Messaging then I am not Google free?:thinking:

I don’t use gapps on /e/OS but I do use MicroG because some applications I need for my daily digital life require MicroG.

I use MicroG to get some apps from the Play Store that I need (and aren’t on F-Droid), but they’re not Google apps - i.e. WhatsApp.

Shouldn’t there be a poll option for “Use MicroG - but not Google apps (like GMail)”?

I voted “No, I’m completely Google-free” though!
There are no Google Apps on my Pixel 5. I love the irony of that :grinning:

I don’t have any Google apps, but I do have to use their services through a browser sometimes. This is mostly because people around me are using Google products and I still want to participate in society.

And YouTube. I can’t find a good alternative that can even sort of compete with the content I watch. Yes, I’ve tried the alternatives like Odysee, Rumble, PeerTube, and Invidious. None of them do it for me.

Everyone is talking about using MicroG. Honestly, I’ve got no idea what apps are using it, but every app I need works fine and that’s what I care about. Personally, I’m way more bothered by all of my notifications still needing to use Google servers.
