Private space on /e/?

Hi there,

I’ve recently updated my fairphone 4 to /e/ 4.3.1 on android 16. Cool !

I can’t manage to find the private space feature available since Android 15. Is it available on /e/ ? If so, where can I find it ? If not, is it planned ?

Anyway, keep up the good work !

Antoine

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

You can install the Shelter app from the open-source tab of AppLounge.

To store encrypter data into your Murena workspace, use the vault app in Murena workspace.

Thanks for the quick reply !

My primary aim is to hide apps and grant access to them through dedicated code/password (and, if possible, keep data hidden/secure as with apps like Safe Space). I’ve never used private space, but it seemed to do exactly that.

As far as I understand shelter (or insular for that matter), they do not provide the possibility to ask for a code to access the apps installed within the work profile :frowning:

You don’t need a separate app, it’s part of e/OS since A15 and works similar to Google Private Space:

Search settings for “User”, you’ll create a new user account and can configure it. Once you have a second user, you can set up different passwords or biometrics, install different accounts or apps. Data is generally not shared between the users, ie you can’t access photos or files from the primary user in the secondary account. There seem to be some limitations, for example some apps can’t be installed in multiple users.

In general, it’s a great feature and works well.

Hi Rupert,

Wonderful, that seems to do exactly what I wanted ! Thank you !

Be advised : I didn’t investigate, but it doesn’t seem possible to install Signal app in two different users.

Cheers,

Antoine

You can use Molly alongside Signal on the same device.
Either “standalone” with a second number OR as a linked device with the same number.

Edit: Admittedly not 100% sure if the linked device-approach works in another profile of the same device, but worth trying…

Well, it seemed perfect, and it almost is : I’ve got one problem though, identical to the one mentioned here: although I have activated calls and SMS on the “secondary” user, I don’t receive sms on that account (voice calls work fine)… I’ll start a new thead to see if there is a solution.
