Problem with turning off the phone | stable version Samsung S7

Hello everyone.

I wanted to tell you that my phone turns off very incorrectly, I press turn off the power and for a few seconds I see a dim screen of my phone and even some buttons are lit, 7 seconds pass and the phone turns off or maybe not, I can not identify this. Very strange behavior of the stable version. If anyone has a similar problem, please let me know. I will try to install the “community” version, maybe there will not be this bug.

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

Strange or “stuck” behaviour on a Samsung can sometimes be fixed by a Soft reset. Press Volume Down + Power together for about 7 seven seconds.

Thanks for your advice. I tried it, it works, but I also took a screenshot while holding the buttons))

As for the problem, it hasn’t disappeared, I’ll try to record a video of what it looks like (if it’s visible).

I have other phones with /e/OS, they turn off after about 3 seconds after I press Power Off

My Samsung turns off by Long press Power button > Press Power off icon.

Maybe (??) you have an unusual setting in

Settings > System > Buttons > Power menu.

Maybe some odd behaviour of adaptive brightness is at work … perhaps try full brightness for a while.

Settings > Display

I shut down my S7 (e-2.4.1-s-official) from the top panel, without using the power button, and it’s fast.

I recorded a video of two different phones turning off. You see a good quality menu at the bottom of the screen, in reality it is a pale menu and it is not clear whether the phone has turned off or is in some other mode??

This needs to be fixed!

Samsung has this problem, when you think that you have disconnected the device, in fact it connects to your router and sends data to its server, I had this with a Samsung TV

S7

S3

Thanks for your answer. The effect from the top panel will be the same as in the video.

Are you sure that the phone is turned off and not in sleep mode but the screen is off?

Thanks for your answer. That’s why

Settings > System > Buttons > Power menu.

There are only two options, it’s to turn on/off the flashlight and turn off the ringer.

I think the problem is in the code

Same for my S7 on 2.4.1-s-20241008439849-official-herolte

You can tell by rebooting the phone (after an appropriate waiting time for it to allow finish shut down): long press power button and the boot screen should appear (“e” above bouncing dot)

No, mine looks like this:

Your answers puzzle me down so I had to try and can confirm :

turning off the device with the power button behave the same as you describe, when the device has just been powered on and nothing else done (in my case, the lock is enable with schematic to draw, and isn’t activated).

But using the top panel shutdown option, it’s straight ahead. You have to unlock the device first.

Could it be related to this?

The way I get to the shutdown-menu does not make any difference on my phone.
Yes, shutdown begins with dimming down the display-brightness but quickly proceeds to black screen and shutdown is completed within a few seconds.
Quickness and thus appearance of shutdown may depend on how many background processes need to be exited.

Thanks for your answers.

What we are talking about is called “Advanced restart” (can be found via search)

I checked (turned on) this function on S7.

When I press reboot I see three options: System, Recovery, Download, when I press Power off the phone also turns off, the screen goes out and for some time I see an additional menu (nav bar).

Yes, graphically it is different … although both devices have Android 12…

I wanted to ask you, how do you check if your phone really turned off or only the screen turned off, and for example, the WI-FI module of your phone works?

I know it’s off because it requires a real boot for it to be on again, just as I described above: boot screen appears, SIM-PIN required etc.
If it was only the screen being off, the phone would not require a boot-process and one could simply log in again…

No … no hidden wifi on or the like (phone disappears from wifi-network)… No incoming calls or messages or battery drain or anything else that would make me think it was not really off.

Your S7 video looks wrong in that while (for me) the nav bar persists for a few moments, the screen then reads "Shutting down … " for maybe 1.5 seconds and then all is replaced by black and the phone is clearly off after another few moments.

I don’t see that any of the contributors so far have talked of Advanced restart. I stayed on topic and only addressed Power off.

Advanced restart adds to the Restart menu, surly recognisably different from any route to Power off.

Another, different, approach … does your S7 have the latest Samsung firmware revision?

About phone > Android version > Vendor patch level. All S7 on supported /e/OS should share the same date. In this post it was recorded as Apr 1, 2021.

Apr 1, 2021 here too

@tom1995 how do you do to record your screen ?
i’ve tried ScreenCam but it can’t save the video when the device is shutting down …

What does the wrong video mean? In reality, sometimes I see part of the bar go out and part of it stays on until the phone turns off completely.

This is the image that is currently installed https://images.ecloud.global/stable/herolte/e-2.4.1-s-20241008439849-official-herolte.zip

This is the Stable version!

If you want to record your screen, one possible option is to use GitHub - Genymobile/scrcpy: Display and control your Android device

Just for your information so that you understand why I asked. When the user presses the button to turn off the TV on his remote, the TV screen goes out and does not say anything that it is on, the TV operating system is not loaded, but when you look at the menu of your router or use other tools to check the traffic, you see that your TV that is turned off is actually working! This is not a fantasy but a reality, you can read information on this topic.

Thanks, but I asked about the Samsung firmware revision.

Edit, 20 minutes later I am not prepared to go on repeating myself.
