I have a major problem with my Gigaset GS6. I switched from the standard Android to /e/OS. The installation went normally and everything seemed fine. After the installation, I relocked the bootloader, exactly following Gigaset‘s official instructions. After reboot I realised that setting a lock screen PIN wasn’t working, and neither was the fingerprint sensor. I also noticed that OEM unlocking could not be toggled off. I retried flashing the ROM two more times, alwasys with the same result. I would like to flash and go back to the original ROM trying to fix this issue, however I could not find any stock roms for this device.
Has anyone experienced this issue before and know how to fix this problem? Help would be appreciated.
Sorry I cannot help with stock ROM for this device but this is the classic symptom for Factory Reset Protection. This would happen if a Google account, password or PIN were left on the phone before /e/OS install. The fix for frp is to go back to stock and make contact with the Google account; remove it, passwods and PINs.
Previous Gigaset ROMs were available once logged in Service | Gigaset and redirected to “Service portal” but things may have changed. Customer service were very helpful in the past.
Unfortunately, the support at Gigaset wasn’t of any help. In reply to my contact I have been informed that no Stock ROM for GS6 can be provided and they were also not willing to re-flash my device.
Some people said GS6 didn’t let them set up PIN or fingerprint. Regarding the latter ‘fingerprint’ in another older post about that problem Christian said:
“I successfully set up fingerprints in my GS6. I made it some time later, not durig the initial setup process. During that process, I experienced a black screen, trying it (a glitch?).”
So, maybe it is temprimental regarding any screen security?
I am on GS6 Pro but unfortunately I don’t bother to lock the phone as I find it a time waster. I prefer quick access at the price of ‘security’.
Checked various posts and all indicates that the problem is caused by FRP. During the initial setup I overskipped the safety setting (PIN nor fingerprints), leaving if for later. Several attempts letter unfortunately same problem.
