Problems using Magic Earth/Maps navigation with mobile data

Hi.
I have recently acquired a Murena Fairphone 6 and just updated to the latest /e/OS 3.1.3-a15-20250905523602-official-FP6.
When using Magic Earth with mobile data to find a route I get the message “The operation cannot be completed because it requires an internet connection. Please check your internet connection settings and retry” although mobile data is active.
I am able to access internet with other apps (the browser for ex).
Switching to WiFi solves the problem.

I could not find a specific app permission which might be the source of the problem (for ex disabling internet access with data). Is there some setting somewhere to activate or is this a bug ?

I have tried the following - as per the post https://community.e.foundation/t/fp6-mobile-data-connection-shows-no-internet-connection/72951 :

  • mobile data is ON
  • toggling roaming doesn’t change anything
  • toggling 4G calling doesn’t change anything
  • setting private DNS to Quad9/automatic/off makes no difference.

It is very annoying because when navigating 99% of the time there is no WiFi.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you see already Magic Earth > Settings gear icon > Mobile Data

No I wasn’t aware of that. Toggling the mobile data setting in Magic Earth solves the problem. Thank you.

Stupid of me but I’m new to /e/OS; sometimes the settings are global, sometimes under Apps and sometimes in the app itself. I’m still learning.

Another question on Magic Earth : why does it require the Camera, Microphone and Phone permissions ? Seems excessive to me. Will it still function correctly if I block these ?

I see that I have those settings all off for rather low key use. Some will be required if one wants to use Dash cam mode.

Ok. I will try to switch them off. Thanks.
