Samsung a52q community installer question

First attempt at installing e/OS
I have a Samsung SM-A525M/DS with latest stock Samsung updates (Android 14) with dev mode & OEM unlocked
On the a52q downloads page, for Android 14, I downloaded both the e-3.0.4*.zip and recovery*.zip
Pre-Install Instructions (from Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy A52 4G - “a52q”) mention converting vbmeta.img to a tar and them reference in ODIN AP section.
The e-3.0.4 zip had a few .img but no vmbeta. The recovery does have a vmbeta.img
So do I use the recovery img ocnverted to tar in AP, or boot.img, etc from e-3.0.4?
And do I still place in AP section?

Is there a way to backup all important partitions, in case I want to reverse back to Samsung roms?

Hi @dale.sykora welcome to the /e/ forum.

A reliable way to roll back is by using a Stock ROM

A word about naming convention.

Leading IMG in filename indicates an archive.zip containing other images.

The way I would look at the instructions is to complete the Pre install instructions. This is often the hardest part. One would aim to complete that before moving on to the install.

Do you have all required components? Perhaps not?

Is pre install complete?

This is a a52q forum search.

Thanks aidb for the info. I am primarily stuck from page Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy A52 4G - “a52q” in the pre-install Instructions #3 " 1. Download the /e/OS build zip file from the section marked ‘Downloads for a52q’. Extract the contents of the /e/OS build zip file. You will find a vbmeta.img in the extracted files." The Downloads for a52q page /e/OS community a52q download has both an e-3.0.4*.zip and recovery*.img The .zip contains boot.img, dtbo.img and recovery.img, but nothing with “vmbeta” in the name. So I am confused. Do I “guess” and just use the biggest img file boot.img, or do I just use the recovery*.img? I fear I am going to brick my phone out of ignorance, so I don’t want to guess. Hope this makes since.

OK. So what exactly did you mean here?

You are right you cannot just guess. You should only flash the vmbeta partition with a vmbeta.img

I do not know the device so I am just talking through the method.

You will see from the Searching link that this has been a difficulty for many.

Edit @dale.sykora

But this is the stated install instruction

  1. Download the /e/OS build zip file from the section marked ‘Downloads for a52q’. Extract the contents of the /e/OS build zip file. You will find a vbmeta.img in the extracted files.

Not unzip

You could use payload-dumper-go to extract from the main ROM

I was using 7zip to extract the zip. I will move to a linux box and try using payload-dumper-go as you suggested. Thanks!

Or use the files provided by LineageOS

Or read the linked thread where users succeed to install /e/OS on this device, the vbmeta.img could be not needed
