SD Card mounted but unusable

Hi,

I’ve just purchased a Fairphone 6 with Murena os. The problem is that the SD Card stops working after a while. Does anybody have the same issue or knows a fix?

Specs : FP 6 running E OS 3.7.3, Kingston CANVAS SELECT PLUS micro SDXC 64Gb U1

Use case : I have set the camera app to store photos on SD Card

Steps taken before for setup : I have formatted the SD Card as external storage. All default directories are here, including DCIM/Camera.

Normal operation : Photos get written on SD Card. I can see them in the Gallery and through file browser.

Problem : Then, after a while (a few hours), two things happen :

  1. the Gallery app fails to show previous photos. Using the file browser, I can’t see these as well. Using System Prefs/Storage, I can’t see them as well.
  2. whan taking new photos, the photo app does not complain and gives the impression that photos are stored somewhere. They’re not. Every shot is lost forever.

What I tried : Reformat the SD card and try again. I’ve noticed that default storage name changes from ‘External’ to ‘SD Card’ randomly after every formatting. Tried several times. No change.

Workraound : Eject then re-mount the SD Card will restore access to photos taken when SD Card was working.

How did you format the card from the phone or a PC, what file sytem did you use?

The card had been formatted using the FP6.

Maybe the issue was just with the card itself. Was a few years old. Have received advice from customer support. Replaced with a new sd card. No problem so far. Will test a few days and report back here.

In think it was caused by my SD card. The new one works OK.
