Perhaps you did use the deprecated easy-installer and not the current eosinstaller because your image shows version 2.2. Perhaps e-2.2-r-20250318477381-stable-dreamlte.zip ??

Here is the install page Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy S8 - “dreamlte”; so pick up at

Install /e/OS

and

adb sideload downloaded_file_name

I don’t find the e-file on my computer so l cannot answer that.

I admit l did let the easy installer guide me through…

I know this phone hates a long use and its screen goes green and its difficult to see through the green layer…

It hapened when l was supposed to make my way through e-recovery so l cannot blame the easy installer…

I feel the original OS is gone but the e- is not installed…

Thanks for the tutorial l will try it tomorrow after reading it.

Goodnight

Hello Im trying but l get this

adb sideload /home/cate/Downloads/e-2.9-s-20250321478413-community-dreamlte.zip

  • daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037
  • daemon started successfully
adb: sideload connection failed: device unauthorized.
This adb server’s $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try ‘adb kill-server’ if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.
    adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: device unauthorized.
This adb server’s $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try ‘adb kill-server’ if that seems wrong.

Does it have to do with my recovery being 2.2 and the e/Os being 2.9 ?

I figured maybe adb was not enabled on the phone so l enabled adb and then this;

adb sideload /home/cate/Downloads/e-2.9-s-20250321478413-community-dreamlte.zip
adb: sideload connection failed: closed
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: closed

I don’t think the error points to this for definite but

Recovery 2.2-r Android 11 (R) and

ROM 2.9-s Android 12 (S)

Would be quite wrong. Please can you confirm that you used the old Easy Installer and not the current eosinstaller.

Either way an installer would install stable=official so in order to take over the job like this you must use official.

When you said that you did not find e-2.2, perhaps you did not see at the foot of the Downloads page that older builds are part hidden as Andriod 11.

Sorry to confuse you with alternatives, but 2.2-r is so old that you may possobly have a problem with future upgrade to Android 12 (S)

I would check whether the current web installer might pick up the job.

Here us what l used…

Using the depecated easy installer, I was called something like “latest-stable-dreamlte.zip”

So I had alreadt downloaded the latest e/ recovery and l just installed it…
I am here

P

To shutdown try boot to Download mode, then see if any combination of Volume up or down + Home / Busby + Power will kill it. Many options like the following it will probably bounce back to life …

… but I think I have made it do that.

Your images clearly say Easy Installer that is non maintained.

OK I managed and after few minutes colors are back,
As you may see above lm on the turquoise display now and terminal says the installation is successful,

Now I am supposed to do this

Manually reboot into recovery:

6 With the device powered off, hold Volume Up+Bixby+Power. When the blue text appears, release the buttons.
Im confused how do l power off the device first ?

OK l also managed that… but the phone needs a little rest… I could see the e-recovery 2.9 now on it

I am now here

but l get that
adb sideload /home/cate/Downloads/e-2.9-s-20250321478413-community-dreamlte.zip
adb: sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found

Do you get same or different with

adb devices

Unauthorised would imply that the phone had sometime Reset, thus causing undo of USB debugging.

adb devices
List of devices attached

Nothing… l should see my phone right ?

Could you try → “advanced” → “reboot to recovery”.
and then go direct to “apply update” → “apply update from adb”.

I suspect the “advanced” → “enabled adb” is for “adb shell” only.

did not work
I get the same message as above

Apply Update → from SDcard should work…

But, does the s8 have SDcard slot ?

it does have a SD slot

It was the s6 that didn’t have SDcard slot…

so l copy the e/file.zip on a SD card and insert it ?
Does the SD need format or is it ok if it contains other files ?
