Set standard navigation app

I’d like to set a navigation app as my default app. However, in the settings under Apps > Default apps, there’s no “Navigation” option. How can I set the app as the default?

Fairphone 5, eOS 4.0

I´d try it this way:

  1. device settings → apps → all apps → search all navigation/map apps on your device and for each: change how weblinks shall be opened to “in your browser” (or the like) if not already set (OR delete any links that are allowed for this app to be opened by it)

  2. then anywhere (Mail, browser, whatever) click on any link that usually opens via navigation app and when prompted set your navigation app as default (“always open with …” or the like)

  3. And/OR in the above device settings → … → “your navigation app” add/check the links that you want to be opened by that app

Hi Obacht,
thanks for your reply.

I’m trying to generate a corresponding link, e.g. with maps.google.com. If I share this link, I can select one app (OsmAnd~), but I can’t set it as the default. The other app (Nunav) can’t be selected, it’s not listed.

The real issue is that I actually want to trigger navigation from another app. I’m planning a route with Cariqa and there I have the option to hand over that route to the navigation app. But since no default navigation app is set, I only get the message asking me to install Google Maps—which, of course, I don’t want

I see, You´d need a way to add this web-adress to the link-options of your navi-app and hope it can handle it (or some other workaround) … sorry, I have no idea how to do this, maybe others have an idea
(I wonder if any app that is not goggle or a browser can do it…)

does it handover the route via an http link or something different? there’s this relay-ing app for all kinds of geo links

you can test with this? Location location location (google link) - #3 by tcecyk

I don’t know how the route can be transferred. You just click “Start navigation” in Cariqa and it should open your navigation app. I tried GeoShare and entered the links you provided—yes, it opens Nunav as the navigation app. But since I can’t copy the route from Cariqa as a link, this doesn’t really help.

Does anybody even have a navigation app set as standard in device settings → apps → default apps ?

I think not, I experimented without a lot of progress. I think this blog helps throw light.

I see a number of EV apps searching from Cariqa but no exact match. Can you please give the AppID.

The AppID for cariqa is com.cariqa.ev.
My preferred maps app Nunav is com.nunav.play.

Thanks for providing the article, this is really interesting. It seems the topic is much more complex than I initially thought. Maybe cariqa doesn’t trigger the maps app in a way that other apps besides Google Maps understand. If so, there might not be a solution to what I’m trying to do.

My guess is that the app is geo fenced, I can get no direct app info. Reading from Cariqa | Direct Payments Infrastructure for EV Charging and seeing the strong links to £$€ I would guess the app to be Google dependent … if that is confirmed it may not be easy break out of their network.
