Hello,
does the /e/OS release of SHIFTphone 8 already have the security patch of February 5, 2025. And does the device support NFC?
The security patch level with /e/OS is defined by release.
e-2.9-a14- is the latest build published here /e/OS community otter download
From Releases · e / os / 🚀 Releases · GitLab we see
This /e/OS 2.9 version includes the Android security patches available as of March 2025.
I had already seen that. Because the phone has an anti-rollback feature, I wanted to be sure.
This would mean that this in the docs:
- /e/OS build : A14 community (Security patch: 2024-10-05)
is wrong.
EDIT: After installing it, seems indeed to be 2025-06-01, according to Android settings menu.
Some more issues with the docs, starting at
until step 5. everything seems good,
however step 6.:
- Approve with volume +
should be something like
- Select with volume +
Approve with power
than the device restarts
and for 7. it’s the same,
repeat steps 2. and 4.
- Unlock critical with
fastboot flashing unlock_criticalApproveSelect with volume +
Approve with power
Something like this, since the device reboots after unlocking the bootloader so one has to set the debug options again and reboot again into the bootloader to unlock_critical, unless I did something wrong).
That’s mostly it.
Hello,
how can I check the Security patch from the downloads at:
https://images.ecloud.global/community/otter/
Or do they all have (Security patch: 2024-10-05) as mentioned in the install doc?
Thanks
This will be an error as noted above.
The correct SPL can be found Releases · e / os / 🚀 Releases · GitLab
This /e/OS 3.0.4 version includes the Android security patches available as of June 2025.
My phone says SPL to be 5. June 2025. So what day in June 2025 has the eOS 3.0.4 SPL?
For clarity … you mean your SHIFT original ROM shows that date and you are considering to unlock the bootloader? Not done yet?
The answer is immediately above
Clarification on this 5-June-2025 vs 1-June-2025 “anomaly” was requested Please put the complete date of the security patch date in the release notes.
Reference

All I have done yet is
NO reboot on fastspring til now.
And yes, the original SHIFTphone ROM shows
As I understand it now, the SPL on eOS 3.0.4 is 1 June 2025.
So I can not install eOS 3.0.4 on my phone. Is this correct?
Thanks.
You should really address @NeOS who, an expert, has actually done it.
Those who are familiar with locking hazards might install and lock later when the Android SPL has advanced sufficiently.
However there are some who take that route inadvertently who come back with different “how to lock safely” concerns.
My advice if you know that relocking is important to you is to wait till it is safe to install and lock exactly as the Install page.
Thanks a lot for your help and advice.
For me this is all a big waste of time, because someone was not able to write a single digit (which is so much important) in the docs.
As of ShiftOS-G Version 6.2. you should be able to reset the Rollback protection index with fastboot oem reset-spl, as mentioned here.
After that you should be able to install Android ROMs with older patch levels than your current one(not sure if there is a limit how far back you can go, but for the current one it shouldn’t be a concern.
To check which SOS-G Version came preinstalled or is currently installed on your SHIFTphone go to Settings->System->Systemupdates(or similar).
There ir should say something on the top in big letters. …6.1-G or …6.2-G
Also according to this thread probably this week, which should also ship with a more recent SPL.
If you feel unsure about flashing a new ROM I recommend waiting a bit more and to make sure everything needed is in place. I also assume that in a few months or so the offical /e/OS installer should support the SP8, which should make the installation process a lot easier, especially since the current manual is a bit out of date.
@Manoj I think this should also be added to the install manual. To the section:
Caution: The SHIFTphone 8 comes with an anti-rollback feature.
In addition to what I mentioned above.
The fastboot oem reset-spl replies with OKAY, but the SPL is still the 5 June 2025.
My SOS-Version is: 6.2 G
release June 30, 2025
Maybe it is a good idea to wait a while for the new eOS version …
Now with version 3.1.1 released I retry to install e/OS.
chmod +x flash_otter_factory.sh && ./flash_otter_factory.sh

In the 4th row it says, the phone is in fastboot mode. Next step says the phone is in regular bootloader mode. The screen on the phone says “START” in big green letters and “Fastboot mode” in yellow letters.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
A different USB-Port solved the problems.
