Speaker too quiet during calls

I am opening this discussion thread because the old one was closed automatically.

I opened a ticket because it’s becoming such a problem that sometimes I prefer to use my wife’s phone : Speaker too quiet during calls (#2) · Issues · e / devices / Fairphone 4 / android_hardware_qcom_audio · GitLab

Thanks !

I’ve noticed that, for example, WhatsApp calls and calls via my Bluetooth headset work without any problems. It really only affects the earpiece on my FP4.

Same problem here, even after increasing volume to the max level. Not sure which version started to cause that.

Actually very inconvenient when receiving a call in a loud environment.

Apparently solved in v3.6. v3.6-a14 · e / os / 🚀 Releases · GitLab

Just tried it, in a quiet environment, couldn’t notice any change.

I need to test it in a loud environment.

No change for me too

Don’t get your hopes up. Just installed 3.7 beta 2 on FP4 and its still the same.

fp4 3.7 a14 stable. the same problem still…

I struggle with the same problem and am happy a new ticket was opened up. The way it is for me, I can often not take a call if I’m outside or in a cafe, orreally any place where someone else is talking. It’s unfortunately not a sustainable situation I think and might make me look for solutions in other ROMs eventually. Is there any reason to believe this works better in Lineage?

@Manoj , I’m sorry to nag about this, but since the low volume makes it impossible to use my phone without headset in many everyday situations, I’m quite eager for a fix. Is there anything to say about progress regarding this?

Many thanks!

Pinging the developers again. They are discussing various options to resolve it. Including adding a volume slider as this issue seems to be device specific. Will update.

Great, thanks for the quick and prompt response @Manoj!

I’ve updated my FP4 on e/OS/ 4.0 and I’m still having the sound problem.

It’s becoming urgent to get this sorted; after all, it’s a phone sold with e/os/

I can confirm that the problem persists after upgrading, both to official version 4.0 and 4.1 alpha. This feels urgent for me as well since it’s a core function of the phone and I currently can’t use it in some everyday situations without connecting a head set (this would be a big problem in case of an emergency).

@Bristow @Eeasy The developers and testers have been unable to replicate this issue at their end which makes it difficult for them to debug. Pl can you share bug reports generated while reproducing the issue and add it to the issue in gitlab linked here.

@Manoj

How can I get hold of these bug reports?

Because it’s not a bug – it’s just that the volume in my ear during a standard call is very low, and in a noisy environment I can’t hear a thing. The only solution is to use a wired or Bluetooth headset.

In the issue you can check with the developers as to how they want the bug reports.

One way of getting the logs from the device is given here.

Thinking of how to define the problem more … This screen recording is from an FP3 4.0-a15-20260612634536-community-FP3 … Settings > Sound and vibration … just a trial run (sound and video slightly out of sync)

My phone is acceptable but the video demonstrates that media volume is stronger than call volume.

Due to sync issues a recording became cluttered but one could also include ring volume which is clearly well in excess of either of the above.

Has anyone else mentioned increments?
On FP3

  • media and call both have 12 steps
  • other sounds 8 steps.

Hi @Manoj , any news about how it goes?

Best regards!

The issue has a awaiting development label which means the team needs to plan on adding the fix in one of the upcoming releases. Will ask the team to assign a milestone to it.
