Is it possible to disable the screenshot sound? If I turn Ring volume off then screenshot makes no sound (it just vibrates) so it seems to be tied to Ring volume/sound settings - which do not have an option to select notification sound.

I found a switch, but it did not seem to work for me! 
Settings > Apps & Notifications > See all apps > 3 dot menu > Show system > System UI > Notifications > Screenshots.
I think that won’t control the sound made when a screenshot is taken, it controls the Status bar notification saying ‘Screenshot saved. Tap to view your sreenshot’
Do I misunderstand silent?

There are some that say that the screenshot shutter could only be silenced nicely with a switch in Settings > Sound > Advanced
I did enjoy a peaceful screenshot here by fully muting the bell icon in volume control. (Calls and notifications will be muted.)
/turns on bell to avoid forgetting meds.
@aibd I wouldn’t want to request dev work for such a small thing when there are more important /e/ work to be done. I’m happy for now just to turn off bell sound first using volume buttons, then take screenshots, then turn bell sound back on.

Never thought of turning that sound off so I went looking to see what I have. Various custom ROMs do have such a toggle.
FireHound Oreo (LOS-based), Havoc Pie, and crDroid A11 (LOS-based) can toggle the screenshot sound.
A10 & A11 /e/OS and LeOS-R do not have the feature. Not sure but I do not think that it is available in the basic LineageOS(?).
Has there been any progress on this? The sound is infuriating to me, it sounds like I’m taking a photo which gets awkward in public, and I don’t typically have my phone muted. This is an important feature to me
This is quite an old thread, so the sceenshot I gave looks irrelevant now … but we did learn in this [Solved] thread No longer hearing sound for successful mail sound - #10 by swarfendor437 that even system notifications can be silenced.
The issue is that I do not want to mute anything else. I only want this one specific sound to never be played. Modifying the volume before screenshoting (current workaround) is annoying and I keep forgetting about it.
Besides for me it seems to be controlled by the same dial as phone calls, not as notifications.
I think it might be linked to what phone is in use and what version of /e/OS is in use.
First I looked at Open Camera settings which I know is an application not a system thing and also the default Fairphone Camera App. Made sure both were off.

On the FP6 I have to use power button and decrease volume button. This automatically appears to mute any system sounds like I posted in the thread @aibd pointed to.
The annoyance I have is if i mute the main sound, the system sounds volume bar stays muted after turning main volume up!
Personally I don’t want to mute system sounds. I want a toggle for the screenshot sound specifically and only that.
So what phone do you have? Like I pointed out in my last post, I have a Fairphone 6 from murena and it appears that when I take a snapshot there is no sound because holding the volume down button with the power button mutes it and everything else.

So if you click on the mute button it mutes the second bar on previous post.

I am aware of the workaround. I do not want to mute the device before every screenshot, I want to disable the sound.
I am a forgetful person. I often forget to mute it and then the sound plays, loudly, in public, which sounds like I’m taking a photo and this has gotten me weird looks.
And frankly its an annoying sound and I would very much rather not hear it ever.
I also forget sometimes to unmute it afterwards, which is significantly worse because it caused me to miss calls/notifications that I find important.
Muting the phone before every screenshot and unmuting it afterwards is a workaround I am currently using but it is not really working for me. I think a toggle would be very helpful. I can’t be the only one sharing this opinion, I hope?
Yes I agree with you on this. I had the reverse issue regarding the ‘whoosh’ sound when mail being sent. I have also found if I mute the main volume the secondary bar stays muted even after raising the main volume.
@Manoj could this issue be raised as a feature request that:
Screenshot sound has a toggle or even remove it? You can tell when a screenshot has been taken anyway as a preview shows up bottom left. There is actually no need for a shutter sound. I can understand the potential need on older OS’s/phones when a preview was not present, but now it is no longer needed.
Can the secondary volume bar be returned to its previous volume when main volume is restored?
You can create the issue in this category. If more user are interested in the same feature we can have the developers look into it.
