Using whatsapp on fairphone 3

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re doing well,

I installed /e/OS on my fairphone 3 yesterday and I’m enjoying it ! It was a bit tricky to get back my contacts, but it’s all good now.

The last thing I may need help for is to get to use whatsapp ! I downloaded the app from the applounge and then when I try to verify my number I get an error message “Connection impossible at the moment, for security reasons, it is not possible to log in for now. Please try again later or contact us if you need help with your account”. I try to desactivate the tracking control option since it is indicated that it may cause some issues, but it doesn’t change anything.

Do some of you have any idea about this issue ?

Whatsapp was not working for me and unfortunately I have to use it for work.

My solution on a Fairphone 6 with /e/OS 3.7.3:

Use birdychat, a WhatsApp third party chat app. The EU has forced WhatsApp to allow third party apps to communicate with WhatsApp itself. (DMA)

While I couldn’t move over my chats, I can at least send messages to my contacts.

So if the kind people on this forum cannot provide solutions, birdychat might be an option…

I reinstalled WhatsApp yesterday and faced the same problem.

SOLUTION = allow all app permissions in settings, reboot your phone and try again. All should work fine like in my phone.

Thank both of you, this morning it was still not working and this afternoon, right after trying birdchat, it switched to whatsapp to get some authorisations and then it worked, magic happened ahah.

Hi,

I suppose it won’t really help you troubleshooting WhatsApp on your phone, but for me, it works perfectly on my FP3+ eOS v3.7.2-official since years.

Not all permission granted (i.e. location, messages, … denied), datas in background not allowed, optimised battery setting. App version 3.26.19.73 via AppLounge.

MicroG settings : no google account, registered terminal, cloud messaging activated, device certification activated.
