I just discovered /e/ recently and I was very excited to see that my old Samsung Galaxy J5, model SM-J500G is in the list of devices supported. I spend almost all my day to try to install it, it was not a smooth process for a newcomer like me. I think finally managed to flash the ROM (using this method, however I just get a black screen when restarting the phone.
After reading the list of supported devices in more details, I see that the supported SM-J500G is single sim, mine however is double sim, purchased in Malaysia.
Therefore I am wondering if my phone is really supported finally… any idea whether there could be several versions of the SM-J500G? If yes, which I am guessing it is, then this post can be considered as a wish to have my version supported as well
The Devices page is new and has been out a few days ago, so some elements might be wrong.
For instance, I have a j5nlte (SM-J500FN) and it’s single SIM, not dual as stated.
By the way, the official /e/ support for this phone will be dropped in a few months so you could directly install my unofficial build on Pie (not on Oreo as the official one). I plan to build an update next week.

Ok, then there is a chance that it could work, I will try to do some more tests, in case I did something wrong before.

I am sorry to read that the support will be dropped, but good that there will be at least this unoffical build available, I will probably try it when it is available and give feedback. I am very curious to try /e/ to see whether it can fit my needs for my next phone.
Go into TWRP (the recovery mode) by turning off your phone, and pressing Home + Power + Volume Up buttons for 7 seconds
Once you are in the main menu of TWRP, go in Wipe > Advanced Wipe > select “data” > Repair or Change File System > Change File System > ext3 > swipe to confirm.
Re-do the same steps again but select “ext4” instead of “ext3”.

Just tried this, I still have the black screen when rebooting
FYI, it’s already available.
I also just tried this build e-0.9-p-20200605-UNOFFICIAL-j5lte, but unfortunately the result is still a black screen.
For each of these builds I get an error 7 when installing from TWRP, which I remove by using following this tutorial. But finally maybe my phone model is specific and just not compatible with these roms.
When installing TWRP I tried first with version 3.4.0-0, but got a black screen when starting the recovery mode, then I tried with version 3.3.1-1, same result, then it finally worked only with version 3.1.1-1.
Not an easy phone apparently, but thanks anyway for all the support you provided.
Hi I have the same issue as you I have a Samsung j500fn single sin and I flashed some versions of twrp and only the version 3.1.1. and the fist version and when trying to install custom room I get the same error and black screen
Someone can help me please
