VLC not really working with Android Auto

Hello every one !

Sorry for my many posts but I try to use my new /e/os (on Google Pixel 6) similarly to my old stock Android 11.

My new problem is about VLC.

It doesn’t appears in the Android Auto launcher (see picture) :

The curious thing is that VLC app appear as an app known from Android auto (see that other screenshot) :

As @Vaughan explain to me on another subject, I looked if I had VLC from Play Store or f-droid. I do not have the choice, VLC is only available on f-droid (or I don’t know where to find VLC from Play Store).

The “fun” thing is that, if I launch music from VLC on the phone, the music is played on the car. And an empty music interface appears :

But I cannot command VLC from the car.

Does anyone has ideas or suggestions ?

VLC parameters :

I don’t see any parameter to “authorize” VLC on Android Auto (and it was working perfectly with doing nothing special with my previous stock Android phone).

For information, the launcher seen from the car, exactly the same as on Andoid Auto parameters on the phone :

Finally, we can note that Signal, Whatsapp and some others apps appears in Android Auto from the phone but are not on the launcher on the phone AND on the car…

Try to install play store version of the VLC using this link:
VLC for Android

I uninstalled the f-droid VLC app and installed with your link. No change…

Okay. Then, another shot in the dark:
Have you tried to enable unknown sources from AA’s developer options?

To try again with VLC from fdroid, I uninstalled VLC from Play Store.

Now, I am not able to install any apps… App install stayed at 0%…

I have reboot my phone many times, log out and log in again as anonymous… Pretty anoying.

Edit : I log out / clear cache / log in again as anonymous. No more able to install apps…

I solved my problem of installing apps from App Lounge.

I reinstall VLC from Play Store.

I cannot find that “Unknown Sources” in my Developper options… I know it is supposed to be there…

I tried to find the others options, but I have not the same in my men :

I still can hear the music in my car (by bluetooth instead of Android Auto ?) but I cannont control VLC nor I can change music with the command from the car (I could previously).

You can try to follow these instructions to activate the developer options:

Hello every one, I was on holiday so I stopped geeking.

I tried just now !

I did activate developper mode in Android Auto app. Some apps compatible with Android Auto now appears, such as VLC or Signal.

It solves my problem. Many thanks to you @SalmonSnake !

I did this, but still cannot see all the apps that should work with AA, like Magic Earth. Any other steps I can take to get those to run?

Hi,

This text is copied from Magic Earth’s webpage FAQ:

I cannot see Magic Earth in Android Auto:

Please try the following:

  • install Magic Earth from Google play. APKs from other sources may not work with Android Auto.
  • clear AA storage (long-tap on the AA app on the device > “i” > Storage & Cache > Clear Storage).
  • try a device restart
  • try a clean reinstall of Magic Earth
  • check this link on power management: Why Some Apps Are Not Available on Android Auto - autoevolution

I have also read that page, but I cannot perform a clean install of Magic Earth, as it is integrated in /e/OS. I also have no official play store, because im using /e/OS.

I got the icon to show up in the end by clearing cache and enabling unknown sources, but the app still is not usable for navigation sadly. Just shows a blank screen with a message about no notifications during this ride.
