Week 37, 2025: Development and Testing Updates

will there be a 2025 edition of the summer holiday photo thread? doesn’t need to be a contest, just vibes

If users are interested we can start one. Last time some complained how sharing photos would leak their location.

Is there priority on this issue @Manoj ? As it pretty much makes the phone unusable at the moment.

Have shared the feedback with the team . Will get back with the response.

Which is the country you are based in …where you are facing this issue?

I am physically located in canada. The problem occurs regardless on whether I turn on the location masking or not.

It looks like another user is experiencing the same issue in the thread. I am not sure where he is located though. @AgentOrange96 ?

We are planning to release a v3.1.4 build for all official and community devices. This build would include

  • Latest (September) security patches.
  • Browser updates to latest version

This release will be published in a couple of days, post testing.

HI, I’ve just wondering if it’s possible to keep the security patch level of /e/OS releases at the same level as factory ROM. Why I think so? I’ve just bricked my phone switching to /e/OS using web installer. I was able to easily revert to factory ROM but now I have to wait till new /e/OS release since factory ROM security path is a few days newer. I don’t want to fully recover all apps and settings since I will do it anyway in a few weeks with /e/OS, so I am with my phone not fully functionable.
I don’t know, maybe it’s not so easy to keep security patches at the same level but I think it would help many users.

We cannot directly release the /e/OS builds the same day as the security patches come out. The reason is there are code level changes made on /e/OS which need to be tested against the patches. The tested also need to be comprehensive and cover multiple test cases and scenarios. Also add the factor that there are more than 200 + devices and 3 OS supported on most of these devices. The number of builds + development + testing efforts can take a few days.

Thanks for explanation. Thought it’s a bit simplier…

Hi, just a correction: under section OS OTA Information / Completed Upgrades there is still noted for GS290 - Gigaset : Q (A10) → R (A11); which is wrong as it has been upgraded from R (A11) → S (A12) quite a while ago.

B.t.w. is the pending upgrade from S (A12) planned to A13 or A14? And is there a time horizon for that upgrade, already? Best regards

The completed section included all the upgrades done in the past. Added the R to S to the list. Thanks for pointing that out.

On the upgrade path. We always start with trying to jump to the latest versions. When that is not possible we step down - one OS at a time.
The reason why it would not be possible is at times there are code level changes which require a step by step OS upgrade instead of a direct jump skipping OS versions in between.

We have not given up on any of the OTA OS upgrades for any of our official builds. The only factor is the time line when it would be possible. Will share details as and when I get any positive inputs from the team.

Will there also be OTA Upgrades for community as soon as official is done? I dont want to do it manually on my FP4.

The monthly updates are all OTA for community as well as official.
The difference is when it is an OS version change for example from A14 to A15 then it is OTA for the official builds only.
Community device OS upgrades are done manually.
FP4 community builds should also show up in the phone updater app as the manual download builds are showing up on the images server
sometimes the builds show up on the server first and then on the updater.

“Community device OS upgrades are done manually.” That was my question. I am on A14 and I dont want to do the upgrade to A15 manually. Will I be in this case forever on A14 or will it automatically be A15 as soon as Official builds receive the Upgrade next year?

Community devices builds are not OTA OS upgradable. They will remain manual.

I am in the US if that’s helpful. I had one reboot with location services off still, but it seems a lot rarer.

Hi Manoj,
Do I understand I have to update manually my Onplus 9 Pro to A15 (I already installed V3.1.1 still A14)? if yes is it the only option? if still yes, how can I proceed? I don’t have any experience and knowledge in program. I hope someting simple is available.
Thank you

I hope A15 build for my Xiaomi MI 8 will work one day. I will update the OS and it will make my phone live longer.
:crossed_fingers:

You can check the install guides for your device by selecting it in the table. If you are stuck this forum is the best place to check for help as there are other users who may have the same device and can help you.

At your own risk you can use also local update. But as I mentioned, have a backup ready if anything goes wrong. There is no garantuee it works. I don’t know which device you have but on my Pixel 5 it worked.
