Why is S9 on Android v12 e/OS v2.3 and S9+ Android v10 e/OS 1.14t the

Hi,

Simple question I have two phones: an S9 and S9+.

Why is:

  1. S9 on Android on v12 e/OS v2.3

  2. S9+ on Android v10 e/OS 1.14

Why the difference, why does the S9+ lags behind the S9, from what I can see it is only the screen size that is different between the two.

They are both Build Version: ‘S’.

S9:
starlte
Build versions: S (official)

S9+
star2lte
Build versions: S (official)

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

you probably miss an OTA upgrade,

fisrt try to clean the system updater cache,
then update to newer version using the system updater.

if clearing the cache is not suffisant to solve your problem,
install the new version from recovery :

  • download it,
  • reboot to recovery mode
  • and choose “install” (if TWRP) or “apply update” (if recovery-e)

/e/OS stable starlte download
.

Thanks, where can I find the system updater cache, found an ‘app updater’, and cleared that cache, but e/OS still reports it has the latest version 1.14.

I see star2lte is 2.3, so 1.14 is behind a few.

If clearing the cache does not work, then to apply the update, excuse my limited knowledge, do I download the update and then boot into recovery mode and i will find ‘apply update’ in the menu options.

Thanks

→ settings → apps & notifications → see all apps → 3 dots → show system → updater → storage & cache

exactly, go direct to step (9) but don’t wipe or format anything (no factory-reset)

Famous last words in the world of custom ROMs.

Thanks, very helpful.

If the system cache does not work then I will try the manual upgrade, so to get into ‘e-recovery’ do I press ‘Volume down’ and ‘Powe’ buttons together for a few seconds, and let it re-boot ?

Press ‘update’, and find the ZIP, I presume that can reside anywhere, say in Downloads for example.

Can the Z

Yes, I’m slightly lacking in the mechanics of what exactly goes into each version, and for each model.

No, it is the exact opposite :

Boot Modes

Recovery

With the device powered off - hold Volume Up + Bixby + Power. When the blue text appears, release the buttons.

Download

With the device powered off - hold Volume Down + Bixby + Power.

release when you see the little text in blue at the top of the screen…

OK, I am stuck.

Have downloaded the file to the phone:

https://images.ecloud.global/stable/star2lte/

I’ve booted into e-Recovery.

Following:

‘and choose “install” (if TWRP) or “apply update” (if recovery-e)’

… under ‘Apply Update’ the only oprion is to ‘Apply from ADB’ … I note at the bottom of the screen it states ‘Now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload ’.

Searching for what ADB side Load is on this community site brings up nothing to help.

I assumed ‘apply update’ would direct me to find the above downloaded file, and away it would go.

So sorry am stuck, can you help.

Assuming I am guided correctly, is not the downloaded file a full version of the OS, will it know just to update, and not overwrite with its version.

So you need a computer as recovery-e for your device does not have the “apply update from internal storage” feature, use the instructions in “step (9)” of the linked guide [HOWTO] an Unified Install Guide Project for /e/

Install platform-tools on a computer

Installing adb and fastboot on a Linux PC
Installing adb and fastboot on Windows PC

On the computer,

download the latest /e/OS build for your device
/e/OS stable star2lte download
(put it into the platform-tools folder)
.

Boot the phone into recovery mode.

.
Select Apply Update, then Apply from ADB

The screen should now change and the output at the bottom ask you to send the package from your computer.

On the computer,

Open a terminal from the “/platform-tools” folder,
issue command to sideload the latest /e/OS-T installation zip.

adb sideload e-2.4.1-s-20241008439849-official-star2lte.zip

the phone screen will be mostly blank with just the output at the bottom showing progress.
(Do not take attention to the wipe related things on the photo !)

On the computer the sideloading shows progress as a percentage figure that will stop at 47%. The phone will still be installing though (even though it might feel like nothing is happening sometimes!) and you can expect to see the following screens (excepting the wipe related things)

Then press the arrow at the top of the screen to return to Home Screen

Tap Reboot system now to boot into eOS.

Thanks, very helpful.

Which file do I download though, there are two, a .zip or .img:

“download the latest /e/OS build for your device”
/e/OS stable star2lte download

This .zip

e-2.4.1-s-20241008439849-official-star2lte.zip

or this .img

recovery-e-2.4.1-s-20241008439849-official-star2lte.img

This post touches on this with regards the .img file, but I am unable to follow it completely, what is ‘recovery-e’ ?? :

Thanks, so ‘e-recovery’ or ‘recovery-e’ are both the same thing … a ‘boot/update’ tool, if I can call it that.

But why are there two versions of the build (a .zip or ,img) and which one should I be downloading.
I ask as I am just cautious.

a recovery.img is include into the main /e/.zip and will overwrite the existing one.

A custom recovery have to be flashed first to install a custom androidOS when coming from stock, it is not needed in your case as it has already done…

Unlike TWRP, the recovery-e cannot manage .IMG files, but only .ZIP files.

Thanks for that explanation, done, easy when you know how
