Applications in /e/ "app store"

It’s not a secret that we have been working on a big application repository for months. This repository will be integrated in the /e/ ROM using an Android application installer, and will be available through a web site.

As the V1 is approaching, we’re trying to make it reliable, attractive, and also something where users can find their application. Will you find your favorite app?

We have opened a partial online search tool for our repository of applications!

35

Please check your preferred app there and let us know about missing apps!

How to do to check your preferred application?

  • go to https://play.google.com

  • look for an application, e.g. Wire

  • click the corresponding application icon to reach the application description page:
    39

  • when on the application page, look for the page URL in your web browser:

05

=> here you notice “…id=com.wire”
The application package name is: “com.wire” - this is what you are looking for to feed our online form

You can report missing applications here, but don’t mind: we’re logging automatically applications that are not found.

(please note that as the API is still under heavy development and updating, the service can experience some downtime - if it doesn’t work, please retry later!)

Can you give a bit more guidance on how to get the “application codename” for an app. I have tried looking on the google play store as suggested but don’t see these codes. Have also searched for “application codename” and no relevant hits that I can see.

The two non-fdroid apps that I use most are lastpass and zoho.

Why you’re not including F-Droid (or the more material ui version G-Droid)? It is a stable and well established repository of apps, that marks the needs of the majority and already includes many apps preinstalled in the /e/ ROM such as K9-Mail and DavX5. More importantly, microg publishes and mantains an official repo for f-droid that could be included by default in an hypotetical /e/ ROM. Plusvalue can be brought to /e/ by the presence of FLOSS apps and an official repo for the Guardian Project apps, useful for people that needs privacy (this in particular matches the goal of /e/ en-plein).

Try this:

  • go to https://play.google.com

  • look for an application, e.g. Wire

  • click the corresponding application icon to reach the application description page:
    39

  • when on the page, look for the page URL in your web browser:
    05
=> here you notice “…id=com.wire”, the application package name is “com.wire”, this is what you are looking for

It’s somewhat confusing, that it states, that this would not be a correct application codename…?

but it obviously is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.infospread.android.mobitime.r.lto

I believe that you can ignore this warning message for the moment, because this message also appears for other valid apps.
But thank you for raising this issue.

Thank you for raising this issue.

Which applications do you have in mind?

I guess just every valid app that’s not found
