Hi, I bought a brandnew Fairphone 6 to install /e/os on it. I followed all the steps in the doc, the device is being found but the upload fails. I receive a message
in spite of the fact that the device was found and I could select it. I have to mention that the “USB Debugging” screen on the Phone looks different than in the doc, there is no “Always on this computer” checkbox.
If you are using Windows a similar error message is seen when Fastboot drivers are missing as [Solved] Windows does not see my phone in Fastboot mode. I would go further than the above comment by @mihi and advise to take a screenshot of the Android SPL from Settings > About phone before you go any further for your own reference later.
Hi mihi, Thanks, the hint was good. Of course, I had followed the instructions but some days ago, and in between the recent version had already changed. Good one! Howevér: Still the same problem. No checkbox in the USB Debugging dialog. The Fairphone is visible in the PC dialog, so the physical connection works. I don’t have any idea.
Sorry for the delay, I’m allowed to reply only once per hour. I understand it as a spam protection, but it isn’t helpful right now.
No slide appears. My computer is Windows 11 and the cable is C to A. As the program reacts when I switch USB debugging (my phone appears in the list so I can try to connect to it) on I’m sure the cable cannot be the problem. By the way: So many thanks to you all for trying to help on a Sunday!
It seems that user Rens ( Trouble installing e/os on FP6 using the web installer on Linux ) has the same issue. I’ll stop for today to avoid unconcentrated work in an unknown topic. Probably I’ll try the “manual” way but I’m really scared because it will be a blind job. Thanks to everybody.
You and him are two of a lot. It would have been great if the /e/OS installer would be an easy way to install. For some it works and others it doesn’t (unfortuenatley there is no error or way of knowing whyjit doesn’t work).
As for the FP6 where the ‘automated’ script exists, it is pretty easy
Dear All, Sorry, I had some other issues and had to give it a break. Now I’m back trying to solve my problem the “manual” way. Not so easy for a total smartphone newby, but I think I figured it out. I downloaded GIT, checked whether thre were more recent supported versions (nope), downloaded the zip, extracted it, read the README (yes, really!), found out how to reboot the phone in FastBoot mode. I started the script, it seemed to work but I get:
WARNING: No The Fairphone (Gen. 6) found in fastboot mode.
WARNING: Make sure that a The Fairphone (Gen. 6) is connected.
Do you want to look for a The Fairphone (Gen. 6) again? [(Y)es/(n)o]: Y
The phone IS in FastBoot mode, the cable is the same with which the connection worked in the “automatic” installation attempt, I tried three different USB port, hence one is 2.0 (I don’t have more in the front of my computer :-)). Any hint will be welcome!!! Thanks.
Addition: The phone in FastBoot screen says DEVICE STATE locked! I had unlocked the bootloader but after that rebooted as recommended. If I restart normal mode the settings are all still there (developer options ON, OEM Unlocking ON, USB Debugging ON). What might DEVICE STATE mean here - is it of any relevance?
Thank you for your patience. As stated, I’m a newby. I had not understood that adb is software I had to install on my computer. I did that now but got stuck again. From the documentation:
