I wanted to share my experience about e/OS on a Fairphone 5.
Everything is functional except a “choppy” framerate/refresh rate the first minutes after unlocking the phone.
After those first minutes, the graphics are smooth.
When locking (screen off) and unlocking (screen on) the phone, the performance is choppy again.
I notice this with scrolling through graphical content like menus, app store, photos.
This is a new phone with fresh install of e/OS version 2.7-t-20250111460957-official-FP5, Android 13.
I switched and combined the following options:
Screen > Smooth Display > on (default off)
Developer options > HW-overlays off, always use GPU > on (default off)
Developer options > The three animation scaling options > off (default 1x)
It seems that turning off all the Animation scaling options fixes the performance issues.
Combining it with the Smooth Display options makes it worse that first minutes so I have this to the default setting of 60 Hertz.
First time here because I am wondering how much /e/OS is ready for fairphone 5 (or vice-versa )
There is still a big list of bug reports Issues · e · GitLab
and the installers shoot messages stating FP5 is not compatible with them.
What is the true compatibility with FP5? I have bought my phone directly on Fairphone store but I am regretting and want to get rid of Android. However, I can still wait a few months for a smoother experience with /e/OS
I have my FP5 since June 2024.
No issues with the performance. @ThinkPol: Never experienced anything like your behaviour. Though I never used Bliss launcher for longer. Presently using Pear launcher
@squidf: From my perspective e/OS on FP5 is mature.Though, if I read through the forum certain use cases seem to be not satisfying. If you are unsure in respect to your specific use cases / apps, perhaps make a search.
…installers shoot messages stating FP5 is not compatible with them…
This has nothing to do with compatibility of the phone as such. Only that the easy, guided installation via the installer is not supported (yet?; plenty of discussions in the forum)
Hi and thanks both.
No more performance issues since I turned off the various scaling settings in the developer options.
I am using the BlissLauncher.
I have never heard of “Launchers”.
Is this Android specific? What is a launcher?
Hi,
I also have a FP5 with the same e/OS version as you and have never had choppy frame rate. Quite the reverse, mine feels super smooth.
FWIW, I use the Nova launcher and my only problem is the I get an error from time to time saying the Bliss launcher has crashed, (even though I don’t use it).
