Feedback for v3.0

Which you have no recent backup of?

It’s good to see there’s still positivity in humanity, but sometimes it’s misplaced nonetheless. Any computer device can fail you at any time, in hardware or software.

I really hope the Murena team can come up with something to soften the blow.

on the install page for Fairphone FP5, it is mentioned that “U official” aka A14 / android 14 is available

image

however, when I check the FP5 download page, I can only see A13 download. Is this an error on the install page or will the A14 version arrive shorty anyways?

Cant install the update due to the connected OverlayFS
Run the following commands, then try again:

upgraded OTA to 3.0-a14-20250529496774-community-lisa

All went well.

Google Assistant showed up, unsolicited, with two apks, so I uninstalled both:

Device CodeName: Lisa
Version of /e/OS previously: e-2.9-a14-20250322478433-community-lisa

Checking on this. Will update

We have temporarily stopped the roll out of v3.0 builds as some device users have complained of issues with the builds.
As you may be aware devices like FP5 users have had issues post the release.

Will update on the release resumption and progress on the issue resolution.

It can be fixed (partially) with simple gain parameters in the code. When somebody is speaking, and I’m not speaking, it should disable microphone, like for example in Teamspeak (gate gain volume), then the problem will disappear. If you want better longevity for Murena, they should be better than stock ROM. I can test this feature for free if necessary.
The Futo and the Grayjaj is the excellent example of being better than proprietary software, because they wanted to be better than YouTube, better than corporations.
The Steam Deck is also an excellent example of being better than Windows for games. Will Murena be better and their refurbish phones than the Samsung factory?

Thanks for working in the night!
Do you need some more testers? How does it work? I could imagine to spend 1 or 2 hours a month for testing, but I need a testing phone because I like to have my private phone continuously working.

A log generated with phone USB connection turned on and running

adb logcat -b crash

would also be helpful.

Pl Note: Disconnecting will restart device.

In my understanding the decision was not least on resources and the issue was not 100% reproducible.
I´d be interested in your solution if it works as I was disappointed too.
Here´s more context on the history of the issue: my closed gitlab-issue and another one and here´s an old forum-thread

Wanted to check if anyone who experienced the crash on their device had

Enabled Advanced Privacy as a VPN in settings as ‘Always on VPN’

On my oneplus 8 in advance privacy :

1 - Pisteurs d’applications: bloqués
2 - Position : bloqués
3 - Vraie adresse IP : exposée

I can’t blocked the last Item (True IP Adresse) cause I have an other VPN (proton).

My FP5 (purchased from Murena) restarts within 30 seconds from unlocking. If I do do not unlock, I can receive phone calls and use hotspot.

Priory to update, I had my advanced privacy set to hide IP and block trackers, but not hide real location.

If I run requested adb commands, not much comes up:

adb pull /data/system/uiderrors.txt
adb: error: failed to stat remote object ‘/data/system/uiderrors.txt’: No such file or directory

adb logcat -b crash
/system/bin/sh: logcat: inaccessible or not found

Trying to ls the /data/ gives empty return.

adb shell ls /data/

I hope it still helps. I have some recent files in that phone that were not yet backed up, so I very much hope for a solution.

I have a FP4 for spare (6 GB RAM, 128 GB, unlocked bootloader), which currently runs on FOS. I can make some tests (install /e/2.9 and OTA upgrade, …) if you guarantee a repair if it needs a EDL-Mode recovery after failed attempts.

A system recovery is currently about 50.- € (incl. shipping) at Cordon in France.

Wanted to check if anyone who experienced the crash on their device had

Enabled Advanced Privacy as a VPN in settings as ‘Always on VPN’

Yes, but not enabled for many apps, only particular ones. Also not enabled for system. Not sure for which ones exactly though.

same thing for official fairphone 5 bought on murena site! and not a geek, so not able to do complicated geek things!

All: With reference to the issue faced by some devices post update to v3.0 as you are aware we have stopped the release.

  • The team has identified the issue and is releasing v3.0.1: the issue is a 3.0 regression from Advanced Privacy for all users who enabled the “Hide my IP” feature with “Always-on” VPN flag.

  • v3.0.1 will go out for all devices, even those that have no issues with v3.0
The reason is we want to avoid other devices facing the same bug in the future.

  • It is important that you update to the v3.0.1 to remain in sync with the upcoming releases

  • We shall update when the v3.0.1 release will be published.

  • The v3.0.1 build will need to be sideloaded on the devices when they are published. This is specific to devices which had an issue. For those devices which did not have an issue with v3.0 normal OTA will work.

  • Sideloading will help avoid overwriting existing user data.

  • Also note the v3.0.1 and v3.0 builds had the security patches updated so do not try to downgrade to older version as this can cause issues on the devices.

For those who are facing the issue after flashing v3.0 we have a workaround. Please be warned that it might not work for all the devices. The steps are as under:

  1. please read all the steps carefully before starting
  2. connect your phone via USB to a PC
  3. When you arrive on the recovery mode with the error tap “Try again”
  4. Disconnect the USB cable
  5. Wait for SIM pin request
  6. Type your PIN code and validate
  7. Reconnect the USB cable
  8. Unlock your screen
  9. Quickly go to Settings > Network and Internet > VPN > gear icon next to Advanced Privacy > Always on VPN
  10. Tap to disable “Always on”
  11. Tap on “Forget VPN” at the bottom of the screen and “Forget” in the dialog which opens
  12. Disable “Hide my IP” in the Advanced Privacy widget

Attaching a video ( sorry it is in french ) of these steps Murena

Thats really good news before weekend!!!
Thank you for quick solution!

The workaround does not work on my FP5. Phone restarts before “settings” properly load.
Will it be possible to apply v.3.0.1 update from Recovery?
