Feedback for v4.0

Reboot doesn’t fix anything. It is a big issue as the apps at the end dont work anymore.

/e/OS version 4.1.1 is being rolled out right now in a staggered release (as usual) … should be available soon-ish for FP4 official … Feedback for v4.1.1

Personally I don’t have big issues. And a couple of re-boots due to minor problems that need smoothing out by Murena Team won’t kill me or my phone

My apps work fine. Display tiny, intermittent issue is nothing.

The phone app played up once which was annoying, but well… nobody’s perfect!

Personnally, I have blocked apps because not updated due to this issue. What is the interest to have a smartphone if you can’t use thé apps you want ?

We must be using different apps.

I am sorry for your experience, you were not specific which app(s) it was about.

No, it’s not good if you cannot use apps you need.

It is not specific to an app. None of my apps are updated.

Have you tried manual update by any chance? Is your auto-update switched on?

Manual update doesn’t work either.

Another little glitch on my Murena GS6 Pro with e/OS 4.0 pre-installed.

When using camera app in video mode a couple of times it said ‘could not film due to serious camera problem’. Then it filmed but when I finished recording the blue dot indicating camera in use did not go away from the top right corner of the screen. Pressing ‘disable camera and mic’ was switching it off but when re-enabled cam.&mic. the blue indicator was coming back on.

Only a re-boot sorted it out.

Update OK for me on my Samsung S9 SMG960-F. But, like @Regis since software update to eOS 4.0, I’m facing audio issues on normal calls. Sometimes the incoming audio is hashed and voices seem like robots. They are very hard to understand. In the contrary, it is sometimes the caller/callee which can’t ear me. This is a very serious issue.

Workaround: reboot the phone, then at least the first calls work. I don’t know when or how it starts to break.

I did some more tests and it seemed linked to the 4G radio connection: working in 4G and buggy when in 3G or GSM. But after reboot, I couldn’t be able to reproduce this 4G behavior… Very strangely, I noticed the same issue on a Whatsapp incoming call !

Should I open a Gitlab issue ?

Third user with same issue on S9 : Feedback for v4.0 - #252 by Nyman

I’m also using an S9+ and encountered a similar issue after updating my software. The upgrade was done OTA, moving from version 3.7 to 4.0, and now to 4.1. Since then, my phone has become unreliable for calls due to severe audio problems. The sound often distorts, making voices sound high-pitched and accelerated, almost like “chipmunks.” This issue affects not just regular calls but also apps like Signal and Snapchat. Occasionally, restarting the phone allows a call to work normally for a short time, but the problem quickly returns, with sound cutting in and out or reverting to the chipmunk effect.

Exactly same experience on S9+

Sounds like chipmunks! Other caller does not hear me.

Reboot in urgent situations, otherwise phone becomes useless. See my other posts to avoid repetition.

I’ve had distorted sound on some connections on e/OS 4.0 and I am starting to realise it might be an e/OS ‘feature’…

Thanks for the reply!

For the others, here are some links to dedicated posts:

Hi!

Does 4.1 solves the problem ?

Also on a Samsung with the same current version, I get the same greyed-out button at the end of the countdown. It’s been doing this for a week already.

Are there instructions anywhere for the manual upgrade?

As proposed in the upgrade interface, they are here : (https://doc.e.foundation/devices/startle/install)
I still hesitate to follow them, but Régis ( Profile - Regis - /e/OS community ) did it with success, despite side effect around audio call render.

@FrancisD, there was this post on the Samsung S9 ota-upgrade S9 update to 4.0 if it helps.

Hi Julien,

Not for me. Some calls still happen to be distorted, but not all, it is intermittent.

P.S. Maybe I should mention that I use Gigaset GS6 Pro.
