FP 6 SD card doesn't appear in the system

I have a FP6 with 3.2. When I insert a SD card it is not shown in the system. Also when I put an used card in, it doesn’t appear in the system.

May the app shelter be the cause of this problem?

Anyone having the same issues?

Anyone solved that?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I’m using SD cards set up as portable/external storage without any trouble in 2 FP3s with /e/OS, and I have no immediate idea apart from hardware (broken card slot?).

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: Search results for 'SD Card + #fp6 order:latest' - /e/OS community where @Geenie comments here SD Card not available/detected anymore

Happy new year and thank you for your help!

After update to 3.3 it still doesn’t show the SD card. I tried to look into the SD slot and it seems ( on the side of the SD) that there is missing a “grey something”. However you can find that “grey something” on the side of the SIM card. Maybe this is the missing part for the connection. :woman_shrugging: I’ll try to reach the support of FP.

Just in case you have not checked this yet, you can see pictures of the upside and downside of the tray here: The Fairphone (Gen. 6) SIM & SD card tray (you can switch to black or green there). I think the SIM belongs into the space on the LEFT, the microSD on the RIGHT (click to magnify):

I did, but thank you for your input. The SIM is working fine, I can use my phone. The only thing not “working” is the SD card.

Can I format the SD card as portable/external storage with another phone or windows? So I could try this option? Or do I normally get to decide this, when putting in a new card in a phone? Can’t remember doing this in my S9 with e/OS.

Ah, sorry, I abbreviated in an invalid way. There are two things … the file system with which the card is formatted, and then how it gets set up in Android.
The OS did take care of both in one go for me a long time ago, so I didn’t think the phrasing through, it seems.

Normally when facing a new SD card Android would let you decide how to set it up, as an extension of Internal Storage or as external/portable storage. I guess /e/OS wisely still doesn’t offer the Internal Storage option again, after it was scrapped because of serious technical difficulty in recent Android versions across many devices and different Android OSes (phones acting unpredictably as well as data loss).

As for formatting it usually would be best to just let Android format the card how it wants to, but you can do this in other phones or with a computer, too, as long as you format the card with a file system Android can handle on an SD card. exFAT is the common choice and the Android default.
Android may still decide it would want to format the card again if it’s not happy with it.

After updating to 3.4 the card became visible. Hope it will stay that way.
