Galaxy S7 on old version?

I and my colleague both have S9’s, mine has continued to update, hers though stopped a couple of updates ago, I have been advised to take a couple of steps (which I now forget) to bring that up to the same version as mine(the current OS version).

I also have an older S7, which I am trying to tell if it has suffered the same ie not upgrading automatically - it currently displays:

My S7 should be on ‘S’, which I make out to be Android 12.

Do I understand this correct ?

I understand to manually force the update I need to first clear the cache, and if that does not work then reboot into a ‘preloader’ mode (sorry forgot name), and select update from there.
