I can’t get a new mobile banking app to work because it doesn’t come from the Google Play Store. It concerns the KBC Mobile app, declared the best bank in the world. Is there a solution, please? Installation works, but there is a check during registration.
yes, funny in any case! I looked up the reference yesterday since the original post was ambiguous whether this was the “best bank app in the world” or the “app of the best bank in the world.” I found this:
and of course felt bad that custom ROM compatibility wasn’t on the list of metrics they looked at:
app functionality, user experience, and customer ratings
Apparently “app functionality” was not marked down if the app doesn’t run at all by default on more secure / private platforms. It makes sense from a general financial security perspective to start with apps that can run on less-surveilled devices and work backward from there… so thanks to @Jets for helping answer that question (which I’d asked for help with a few days ago here).
In install the app from the App store on the phone. Attempt to open the app, if it fails go to “Advanced Privacy” on the phone hit the setting Gear. In settings select “VIEW ALL APPS”.
Go into the KBC app and see what permission it is looking for. Try turning the permission(s) ON one at a time (first) and then try more if necessary. Try to establish what is blocking the app from running. Once you know see if you can live with that leak or leaks.
I have never done this but it is worth a try. I do see the KBC app in the App store, KBC Global and KBC Brussels.
Edit: Also try using the app with location services ON (I leave mine off unless completely necessary).
