Help needed, installing stock firmware on a LG / Google Nexus 5X (bullhead)”

That image certainly looks an improvement and Bootloop of Death (BLOD) is said to be temporarily eased by chilling the device (perhaps it was cool overnight).

I have commitments over the early evening, so not sure how much I can help.

Especially in light of the phone nearly working I think I would start with

fastboot devices
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-fbe-4core-bullhead.img

… so this would be the “on the fly” method. TWRP will be fragile.

… can you manipulate TWRP on the phone to Advanced → ADB sideload … some animation should indicate that the phone is ready in sideload … then

adb sideload N5X-6P_BLOD_Workaround_Injector_Addon-AK3-signed.zip

8) Reboot and cross your fingers that it works

I will look in when I can; speak later … Good luck …

I had a bump on the way…

So l did the reset and now tadaaa !

Now l see my phone properly on my computer !

Questions :

Is twrp installed on top of the fastboot mode l originally had ?
In other words is it still on my phone or was it erased defenitely ?

If yes can l dream of installing e/os instead ?

Im afraid to even touch the phone !!

Well done. TWRP should be gone!

I hope you will touch the phone and explore the menus and understand how the phone should work. Perhaps even phone someone!

  • Explore Android recovery. This is the component which TWRP replaces.
  • Loosely speaking, fastboot is communication channel only, it should look just the same as in Google as it does in /e/OS.

I would wait till you know the phone is reasonably stable then you can just follow the install page Install /e/OS on a Google Nexus 5X - “bullhead”.

It is only three items

b) Regular TWRP install

fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-fbe-4core-bullhead.img

Now reboot into recovery to verify the installation this essential step is needed to change the “flashed” TWRP to “installed” TWRP.

Then manipulate the now installed TWRP to Advanced → adb sideload then

adb sideload the_e_os_ROM_@piero_mentioned

… when apparently complete (2 minutes) you then do

adb sideload N5X-6P_BLOD_Workaround_Injector_Addon-AK3-signed.zip

8) Reboot and cross your fingers that it works

im trying to find it
e-1.17-q-20231221-UNOFFICIAL-bullhead.zip

adb sideload e-1.17-q-20231221-UNOFFICIAL-bullhead.zip

$ adb sideload e-1.17-q-20231221-UNOFFICIAL-bullhead.zip
adb: sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…
adb: pre-KitKat sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found

From what you have written you did not start from the top.

And please always do

adb devices

or

fastboot devices

Before you start.

It also helps you to consider / remember which language you are using from your terminal

  • fastboot … when the phone is in fastboot mode … or
  • adb … when the phone is in Recovery.

cate@cate-1011PX:~/Downloads/Bull$ adb sideload e-1.17-q-20231221-UNOFFICIAL-bullhead.zip
adb: sideload connection failed: no devices/emulators found
adb: trying pre-KitKat sideload method…

meanwhile I was browsing your link…

… you can just follow the install page Install /e/OS on a Google Nexus 5X - “bullhead”.

but the e/OS build is not found

Chinese to me…
Thas why l must follow a tutorial or be guided…

Meanwhile l checked the phone seems to work ok…takes pictures
Plays videos
Sound ok…

Oh but wait its battery holds only a few seconds unplugged…
Maybe that was its problem from the start… says 99% charged though…

So l leave ot to charge all night and check tomorrow and maybe look for a new battery for it… before trying any migration…:woman_shrugging:

No improvement on the battery overnight its really dead

Phone calls and sms ok so l want to try install e instead

Sorry that I included the install page, that seems to have distracted you.

Well that was the tutorial

  • then Swipe to Start ADB Sideload

Ok
By the time l figured piero 's e/os filename to copy paste in the terminal l was in step 3 and l missed step 1& 2 so it could not work…

Will try that tomorrow if thas what you meant with 3 steps…

Ok
I see now how l get to that screen and l will try your way if l fail with aibd 3 steps…

It seems now my phone has a more predictable behavior

What a headache l am knnacked but happy l managed so far

Goodnight

yes i can confirm, only 3 steps (~10 minutes) :

It does require to read each line that is written.

Perhaps I should retire now. The task of the title is done!
Good night.

then, when the /e/OS-Q version will works, after some days, you could try the /e/OS-T version by just applying :

Hello
New problem on the rise

wether l try to put first the e/file from the computer in the phone and try install the zip signature fails, i tried a few times

what am I doing wrong ?

And from computer

And this way l follow the 3 steps and it goes on installing on the phone for a long moment but then its not working

I get to reboot but it wont…

What am l doing wrong ?

The standard instructions would include to Format data with TWRP.

I guess you should (quoting the /e/OS install page)

  • In TWRP return to main menu, then tap Wipe
  • Now tap Format Data and continue with the formatting process. Here a new screen may show where you will have to type Yes and confirm the action by clicking a button.

Caution: Format Data will remove encryption as well as delete all files stored on the internal storage. Remember to take a backup first. Check Requirements section above.

  • Return to the previous menu and tap Advanced Wipe.
  • Select the Cache and System partitions to be wiped and then Swipe to Wipe
  • Sideload the /e/OS .zip package.

The above wording does not include

Advanced → adb sideload → swipe to enable sideload,

… but you have probably learned to find your way round TWRP now.

it is well detailled and illustrated in the step by step “tutorial” i linked you in one of my first post :

or

but don’t forget to add the N5X-6P_BLOD_Workaround_Injector_Addon-AK3-signed.zip step at the end…

followed all that and l get
zip signature verification failed !
