Notes sync issues (again) - version 3.3 on FP5

Hi,

using /e/ on FP5, “Notes” sync is failing again.

I don’t know if it’s related to the ‘new’ account thingie advertised in 3.3 changelog, when I restarted on 3.3 after update I had to re-auth my murena account.
Apparently contacts sync still works for instance.

In “Notes” I constantly get “Sync error” message.

I “Account”, if I go to Sync options, then I toggle “Notes” off, then on again, the arrows symbol tunrs a bit, then a new date of last sync is written, without error. … but if I compare notes on device and notes on murena account in a we browser, they differ.

I also tried the new “murena workspace” app … that finally opens in a browser and is really hard to use, still not sure I get what this app is supposed to bring, anyway notes are not sync’ed in this view either.

I have also no idea how to remove notes account and re-add it for instance : i can’t remove an existing account, adding an existing one tells me it’s already imported.

Note that I do use OTP to secure my account, and it was never an issue so far, and it still works for contacts so let’s hope it has nothing to do with the issue.

Additional general rant about account : All in all, it’s really a mess there’s no easy way to guess where account sync is supposed to be configured (in Notes ? in Account ?), and for some reasons my unique murena account appears with 3 names under accounts : murena.io account, Contacts, Webmail.
I once tried to remove all, add just murena account, and the other two poped-up again. In the end it’s very hard to understand what is happening, what I should expect to see, or how it’s supposed to work.

I have the same issue with a Pixel5 since I updated to v3.3. The sync issue occurs just after the update. Everything was fine with version 3.2.

I also use OTP to connect to my acount.

The Notes app seems to be the only one concerned by this issue. There is no problem with other app so far.

I always need to use the e.email domain to login to my Murena account. It doesnt work if I use the murena.io. For instance on the new Murena Workdpace app.

This is not related to v3.3. I always need to use the old email form.

Can this explain the issue with the Notes app?

Regarding e.email : in my case I never used it, .murena.io always worked so far

I have exactly the same problem with version 3.7.7on FP3.

Same here. Since Dec. last year the notes were not synchronized with the symptoms @NotSqual described in the original Post above.

More funny: Meanwhile I upgraded to e/OS 3.6 on my FP6 and tried to finally resolve that issue by removing and re-adding my murena account in the account settings. Luckily I had backed up my notes before. Now when I open the notes app after re-adding the account, a start screen appears as if I had never used the app before. I need to choose whether I want to add an account or use local storage only. When I choose an account, it offers me my murena account (or to create a new one), and when I select my murena account, it shortly tries to load something and then switches back to the init screen. No error message, nothing… it just silently fails and goes back. When I choose “add new account” instead, it tells me that I can only have one murena account on my device. The only possibility is now to have local storage. But then I’d need to manually recreate all the notes from my backup, which is a PITA.

Luckily the workspaces app works. Its cumbersome to use, but at least I can manage my notes there at all, and they are synchronized. Still I would like to use the notes app and have proper synchronization, as this is more comfortable.

For my part, I finally installed the Nexcloud Notes app and used my Murena account to sync my notes. I no longer use the app that comes with the operating system.

Hi, just yesterday I started having problems syncing the notes I edited on my phone using the Notes app—they weren’t syncing with the cloud or my computer. An error message appears, and the notes on my phone have a pair of circular arrows next to them.

Here’s the solution that worked for me after trying out a lot of different settings on my phone.

After Softer’s remark about having a2f enabled, I tested that it doesn’t work if it’s active; this solution doesn’t work with a2f enabled.

  • I open the account manager and click on the account itself, where the blue arrow is

The issue arose for me and was also resolved with the official v3.5 release. I just installed the official v3.6 release on FP4, and it’s still working fine.

I’m having exactly the same problem on my FP6 running /e/OS v3.5 a.16

Unfortunately, your solution doesn’t work for me. Do you have 2FA authentication?

Disabling TOTP allows Notes to fonction again.

Have shared the issues reported on Notes with the development team. Will update if there is any progress on the issue resolution.

For me the ‘solution’ was:

  1. To disable notes sync. in murena account
  2. Install Nextcloud files
  3. In Murena Notes app select my murena account used to login in Nextcloud files.

By this way Ican synchronise my notes with Murena Notes app and my Murena Workspace.
