Qualcomm aptX codecs

Hello,

Since I was using /e/ OS I was wondering, why there is only SBC audio codec available. Then I found out about licenses required to use them but since 2023 Qualcomm opened their aptX codecs and since then they are available in AOSP for everyone, even ROM makers:

Why it wasn’t implemented to this day? To be honest lack of bluetooth HD audio is a huge disadvantage over other ROMs and SBC is just bad.

Can you give your /e/OS version and your phone? See also [HOWTO] Give complete /e/OS version info easily for support, answers, comparison etc

Interestingly, I seem to have aptX on my OnePlus 6 (enchilada) with /e/OS 14, Version 3.0.4. The codec is at least shown in the Bluetooth and the developer settings when I connect my headphones to the smartphone.

Latest Official, 3.0.4, Fairphone 5.

Lack of codecs was showing up since I stared using /e/ OS so like end of 2023.
In my case codecs are shown up but they are greyed-out completely even when Qualcomm aptX device is paired with the phone.

FP5 official doesn’t offer the A14 upgrade yet. It exists for new installs or sideloaders though - you’re possibly on A13 / T then?

Ah yes, my bad, I didn’t provided that info.

I’m on official T. I would try to manually upgrade to U but it’s too much of a hassle to restore everything and you cannot do a dirty upgrade anymore.

the article says aptX in AOSP earliest by A14, fyi if you missed that bit

Oh, yep, I definitely missed that one. So I have to wait then
