Samsung Galaxy S7 - This device is owned by your organization

Hello,

I just install e/OS/ on my Samsung Galaxy S7. After encrypting the phone and installing all my apps I got this message “This device is owned by your organization”.

I bought the phone brand new in 2017, so it is not a corporate phone.

Any ideas how I can remove this message?

interesting why this is triggered. Did you already insert a SIM? https://old.reddit.com/r/mobilesupport/comments/qacv78/samsung_galaxy_s10_displays_this_device_belongs/j62l99y/

Did you connect a Google account?

After installing /e/OS/ during the setup I insert my SIM and SD cards. I connect a Google account and via microG and my second email via google.

I notice the message after I encrypt the phone via the encrypt option in the settings

Before installing /e/OS/ I was few days testing Lineague OS 21, but I decided to go for /e/OS/ because in Lineague OS 21 the option for encrypting was not available. In the Lineague OS 21 I didn’t have the message

I’d sanity check and not connect any Account for a while and see if the message still shows. Though I’m of little help, I never heard of that case.

(murena is integrating an MDM currently, but that shouldn’t be related - more users would run into this then)

The expression gets a few hits on an online search, but I do not see a result that fits your case. My guess is that this is some sort of Placeholder for Knox, but I cannot explain why it happens for some.

Might you previously experimented with Knox but not followed through with any actual linking? Just a guess. The guess including that this is logged with your Google account.

I also have this issue on the Samsung galaxy s7. not sure why as my phone is not corporate either. I installed e/os on the 27th (about a week ago), the message popped up after I restarted the phone for the first time a few days ago. it hadn’t appeared until then. I have a linked murena and google account, but I feel like it should have been documented by murena if this would happen

Sharing this feedback with the developers. In this thread, it seems to be showing up only on Samsung devices.

Pl can you check if parental controls are enabled on your device. That can also trigger this message as it is also a MDM app.

No parental controls are turned on for me. i just factory reset my phone for unrelated reasons and the message hasn’t returned when I re-added my murena and micro g accounts. I will update if it comes back

Just for precise clarification, at the moment it seems as if the “organisation” message followed your Google account – you saw the message with Google account; no message without Google account. (??)

Hi, I’m having the same problem.
My samsung Galaxy S7 is shown as belonging to an organization. Murena MDM is activated as a device admin app in the security tab and shown as deactivated in the accessibility one. Therefore, It can’t be deactivated when going in the security tab (the option is grey). It’s a pain in the neck as parental control cannot be activated as well as work profile.
Besides, when i click on mobile device management in the system tab, MDM app shows up and ask me to enter an ID that I’m supposed to find on the murena MDM page (https://mdm.murena.com). However, i’ve never setup this. See my orignal post here.

Thanks for your help !

Just being curious about my own S7 which is on 2.9-s-20250321478216-official-herolte…
I am not getting this “belonging to an organization”- notification, but:

Deactivated in my case

Same here

Yet still: I could not activate parental thingydingy even if I wanted because I get a popup saying:

… which is a false statement: as stated above no MDM is active whatsoever…
Seems like there is something wrong even with no active MDM (?)

Bug is not present on my Tab 5 SE on 2.9-a14-20250323478432-community-gts4lv

I’m getting a similar pop-up in my case and as stated above I can’t install shelter as another app is using work profile and is ruling my phone. I’m pretty afraid right now as my data are being watched by an unknown program which my randomly interfere with my phone. I’m definitely not okay with that, and I would really like this to stop as soon as possible. Otherwise, I’ll just back up and uninstall /e/OS. I cannot take the risk to have everything going widely into someone’s server.

I don’t think that someone is watching you…

But I do think if you wanna try something on your own it would be backup data and revert back to /e/OS factory settings. Then try again.

The slow part would be create a ticket and find hopefully with the developers what happend. This one would be great for other users but really not sure how fast this will go.

I know it’s probably not the case, but it’s a bit frightening for me to know that murena currently have a full control of my phone, including the possibility to erase all my data and have access to them. I just can’t bear this state.

I’ve seen that other people having this issue have tried to factory reset without any change. As my phone isn’t rooted, there’s no handy solution to backup everything and then factory reset. Maybe if i backup data using TWRP ?
In any way, i’m not the only one impacted and a fix should be released for samsung device in order to correct that.
Hope it will come.

Are you sure about that? I guess clearing the storage of a certain appjis not enough to undo the changes :see_no_evil:.

MDM as far as I understood is meant more for the b2b (am I saying it right?), a company can make certain adjustments for the staff when using /e/OS

feel free to contribute and comment:

As a system app, you can’t clear the MDM app’s storage. Besides, it is said explicitly that my “admin” can have access to my data and has the possibility to erase them all. Not reassuring…

until the mdm package is fleshed out, planting android:testOnly="true" in the app manifest would allow the user to change this

Another samsung over here

All right, so according to several posts :

Is the command to disable the package (which name is foundation.e.mdm here to disable mdm).
