Switching to FP6 + e/OS wondering about some features

Hi, I’ve been coveting a Fairphone and e/OS for a number of years, finally timing and availability mean the FP6 looks right. I wanted to ask if anyone can confirm whether the following capabilities exist and whether the listed apps work in e/OS on the FP6:

  1. Wireless Android Auto - I know AA exists, but can’t confirm if wireless works
  2. When AA is being used, do I have to have Google Maps, can I use Magic Earth and not install Google Maps at all?
  3. Charge limiting - can I set a limit (or enable a predefined fixed limit) to stop charging at 80% of capacity - I’ve seen other discussions, but not definitive answers
  4. WiFi fast roaming - specifically 802.11 r/k/v - Samsung supports this, Google claims to (but it’s poorly implemented)
  5. CalDAV and CardDAV sync - or third party app, specifically DAVx5
  6. In terms of apps - the following are the ones I use the most and would like to continue to use them, was wondering if anyone can confirm they work
    1. Roon ARC
    2. Qobuz
    3. Reuters
    4. BBC
    5. Moon+ Reader Pro
    6. Calibre Sync
    7. Fairmail
    8. DigiCal - specifically the agenda widget
    9. Airline and hotel apps (American, United, Hilton, Marriott/Bonvoy)
I’d read paid versions were not supported yet, or partially supported - I’ve bought most of those apps, so would prefer to use the paid version if possible.

I appreciate any guidance anyone can provide, thank you

Alan

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

That is device dependent - on some devices and builds (community vs. official) it is possible, I use it on an OnePlus as example.

The charge speed aka power limit is not configurable for my device, but the maximum charge is.

For other devices, people mentioned that the options were not here. So the most definite answer would be: “depends on device”, I guess.

Buy the phone an try, if these features do not work switch back to stock ROM.

I have warmed your pablum, should I spoon feed you now?

I guess it’s going to be 80/20 on your requirements. It can’t be as reliable as Google Android

  1. apart from the official doc, there’s two threads on the AA experience with recent entries, search for “android auto” + in:title, sorted by “latest post”. It works, but additional config is needed to have more Apps show up. Wireless… no clear statement on this
  2. reads to me like both, but I’m no AA user to be reliable
  3. (?) needs an FP6 user to answer
  4. according to this, Google fast roaming implementation seems sufficient, but wifi stacks can be tied to device firmware, so your FP6 experience can differ to Pixels, FP6 user where?
  5. as a centerpiece of /e/, that all works with a built-in davx5 fork
  6. 1-8 I’d be positive. There’s some support in microG for the Billing API (even if it’s not yet in their wiki status) - the playservice surrogate. What you already bought can be installed. It’s an experimental feature but when enabled you seem to be even able to buy. YMMV. Banking apps cause most friction, but lots of do work. I’m wary to speak on travel apps. There are compatibility databases.

Thank you for your responses - I appreciate you sharing your experiences and knowledge. I’d read most of that info while researching prior to posting - I didn’t find anything specific on the FP6 or wireless AA. Based on your responses, there isn’t any yet.

Thank you for the links to the app compatibility databases, those I hadn’t seen.

on AA: if the native wireless function doesn’t work, there seems to be a workaround using a dongle with positive feedback.

On question 3, I have the /e/OS ROM running for about a week on FP6, sadly no option in the menu to set battery charging limits, see screenshot of current battery options. The option is also not in Battery saver or Battery Manager

I have mentioned its absence on the Fairphone forum, but will also create some feature requests in this community based on my findings.

Yes, it is a separate menu option called “Charge control” or comparable (translated it from my native language). This one is placed between “Battery Manager” and “Information” on some devices that support it.
