When my phone tries to connect to an open wifi, it terminates the mobile connection

I have posted about this issue before (When phone is trying to connect to known or open wifi, it already terminates the mobile connection), maybe it is a dual SIM thing?

Problem: my Fairphone 3 automatically tries to connect to any open wifi and a notification is displayed about connecting through a login page. But in this state, the mobile connection is already dropped. So I have no internet (mobile connection icons for both SIMs show an exclamation mark en firefox show’s a message ‘no internet connection’. But worse than before, if I disable wifi, the mobile connection is not restored. Turning the phone off and on also doesn’t help. Switching to the other SIM for mobile internet works, switching back helps partially. Partially because the icons have the exclamation mark (no connection) and some apps work, others don’t. I have the feeling some apps (like Whatsapp) bypass formalities and just send or receive, while others ask the OS I get the message that there isn’t internet, while there is.

Needless to say this is terribly annoying and I was wondering if anybody has the same problem.

But are you able to find and accept this proposal? I do not have it now … but pre e/OS I have seen this … due to the login page being (effectively) blocked.

There are times however, more recently, having seen the message about the login page, I have to look to Notifications to find and accept the terms of the login page.

Can’t confirm on 2.3-t-20240820427106-dev-FP3, for what it’s worth. Works as intended for me.

Did you use the opportunity of a shutdown to reseat the SIM card, by chance?
And how old is it? SIM cards tend to deteriorate over time and may cause the strangest trouble, also trouble one wouldn’t attribute to them at first.

@aibd I can click on the notification and then a login page is displayed. If I have credentials I can login, like in the train station or a café. But sometimes I just need to look up / check something small fast and don’t want to be bothered to login. But like the other day in the train station I did and used there wifi, but as the train leaves the station wifi is lost but I don’t regain mobile access as I explained.

@AnotherElk I’ll have a look at that reseating of the SIMs thanks.

…or could it be an issue with the IP feature of Advanced Privacy?
I had a similar experience weeks ago with my FP4 switching from mobile data to open wifi network. In my case I voluntary switched off mobile data. But after have used the wifi I couldn’t restore the mobile and I’ve found a problem in AP.
