Work Mode Causes Recovery Reboot on /e/OS v2.9 & v3.0

I want to share my experience with a persistent problem affecting both /e/OS versions 2.9 (the last OTA release) and 3.0. The issue is not limited to the latest update but also occurs on 2.9.

The problem arises specifically when using apps in “Work mode.” I have been using two sandboxing tools installed via F-Droid:

In both cases, when I play a video in the NewPipe app inside the Work profile, the screen flickers—turning off and on—and shortly after, the system crashes and boots into recovery mode.

Outside of Work mode, the system remains stable and does not crash. However, this issue did not appear immediately; it manifested after some time using Work mode, and once it starts, it happens consistently every time.

This is a serious problem because recovery mode boots force a wipe or rollback, disrupting normal usage. It also suggests some instability or incompatibility with running apps in sandboxed environments on /e/OS.

I faced a similar issue after upgrading to /e/OS 2.6.3 (a13 → a14). In the discussion thread for that /e/OS version another user described it like this: Feedback for v2.6.3 - #214 by rikshaw
And proposed the following workaround, which solved the issue for me: Feedback for v2.6.3 - #263 by rikshaw

Cheers!
