[App] won't run unless you update the Google Play Services

On my Fairphone 3+, I started seeing Toasts recently that say that “MicroG has crashed” (or “keeps crashing”? Not sure how exactly it is worded). And now some apps are showing popups saying “[App] won’t run unless you update the Google Play Services”.

My understanding is that MicroG is the replacement for the Google Play Services, and I don’t have control over MicroG because it comes as part of /e/OS. Is that correct?

Is that a known issue, or is it just me? Do I have a way to update MicroG manually, or should I expect it to be fixed with a system update?

EDIT: I am on /e/OS 3.0.1-t-20250606498724-official-FP3

I would suggest it worth clearing cache in all 3 (or more) microG apps …

Settings > Apps > See all … apps > 3 dot menu top right > Show system > MicroG Services > Storage & cache > Clear cache

Settings > Apps > See all … apps > 3 dot menu top right > Show system > MicroG Companion > Storage & cache > Clear cache

Settings > Apps > See all … apps > 3 dot menu top right > Show system > MicroG Services Framework Proxy > Storage & cache > Clear cache

You might also progressively Clear storage in the above apps.

[App]

undefined …

:white_check_mark: more or less correct …

It is not recommended to try to update microG version … that is about correct.

But is your /e/OS up to date ? [HOWTO] Give complete /e/OS version info easily for support, answers, comparison etc.

I’ve seen this at MicroG wiederholt beendet in the .de section. Interestingly not much mentioned in the 3.0 feedback thread. Logfox / Logcat most useful. At time of writing no backlog issue on this

I believe it is, yeah. I am on 3.0.1-t-20250606498724-official-FP3, which is an Android 13. The Updater doesn’t offer a more recent update.

Unfortunately that did not help :frowning:. I also cleared the cache in the app.

Sorry, I didn’t think it was relevant. The app is “SBB Mobile”.

I also very occasionally see the same toast, and have done for some time now. Same set-up: FP3+ with v3.0.1-t-official.
I haven’t as yet had a message that any specific app won’t run though.
I’ve cleared the cache on the 3 microG apps as suggested and will see if it appears again.
