Delete all contacts ... again

Hi,

I am trying to bulk delete all contacts on my phone.

Reading threads here I see that is not possibe on the stock contact app.

I have tried clearing Storage in the phone, but the murena cloud simply resyncs them, I do not see a way to bulk delete them on the cloud either.

It has been suggested to install a 3rd party contact manager, and to use that to bulk delete, question on this is - will it recognise both the murena and device accounts and there contacts, if installed after the contacts were originally created.

No need for a third party app. The stock contacts app, (and most / all other contacts apps) do not store the contacts: they are clients which access the data owned by the ‘Contacts Storage’ system app.

To delete all your contacts, you need to clear storage for the Contacts Storage’ system app (Settings | Apps and notifications | Show system).

Thanks for the reply.
I think I went to the right place:
settings/apps and notifications/contacts/storage/clear cache and clear storage

User data then = 0 Kb, but that then springs back to 255 Kb, going back to contacts they are all still there, I presume the cloud has re-synced them, and as above I cannot see a way to bulk delete contacts in the cloud.

I have two sets of accounts on the phone, one set of contacts in the ‘Device’ account (copied there by mistake) and one set in my non device (murena) account (on my phone).
I wish to delete both sets of contacts (on my phone), and re-import a set to the Murena Account on the phone.

Settings - Apps and notifications - See all … apps - (three dots menu at the top right) - Show system - Contacts Storage

Ahh yes, found what you were pointing towards and cleared both phone contact accounts (device and murena), thanks.

However the cloud then simply re-syncs the Murena account again repopulating.

I cannot see a way to Bulk delete contacts on the cloud, unless I am missing something.

  • Go to the contacts page in the cloud (https://murena.io/apps/contacts/All%20contacts)
  • Click the Settings Icon (bottom left) - all your Address books will be displayed
  • Click the ‘three dots’ menu next to the ‘Contacts’ address book
  • Select 'Delete`

I haven’t tried this, but I assume that deleting the Contact address book will delete all the contacts it contains

As an aside, the cloud shows ‘667’ ungrouped contacts, but the phones Contact App 662 contacts, any idea why the difference.
I deleted 3 contacts by mistake, but not sure which ones, so is the phone missing some contacts?
I have a .vcf file with 670 records, that I want to re-import in its entirety.

That’s weird. It’s there for me when I visit that page in a web browser on my laptop or on my phone

If it’s not appearing for you, I would say that’s a bug, and worth raising a gitlab issue.

Just to say, I can reproduce your issue on Firefox 91.10.0esr (64-bit). I certainly have seen the delete option as shown in @petefoth’s image on earlier versions of /e/ cloud. Additionally the Nextcloud version info was not found in the expected place. Edit for clarity, that is the version of Nextcloud used by /e/ on their cloud service.

Yes I got the gitlab sign up error ! await my ID’s to be verified by /e/ OS folk.

I have replicated the problem on:

Firefox 105.0.3 (64 bit)
Chrome: Version 106.0.5249.119 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Brave: v1.44.112

Can I ask what Browser you were able to see the ‘Delete’ function, if its works on that then that is what I will use.

I can see the delete function in all of these browsers on MacOS Big Sur version 11.7

  • Brave Version 1.36.112 Chromium: 99.0.4844.51 (Official Build) (x86_64)
  • Firefox 105.0.3 (64-bit) for MacOS
  • Waterfox G5.0.1 (64-bit) for MacOS
  • Safari Version 16.0 (16614.1.25.9.10, 16614)

unfortunately I did neither install 3rd party contact APP nor using ecloud, so can’t give you any advise. I’m still waiting the standard app will be amended some day.

I normally navigate to the eCloud using bookmarks pointing to ecloud.global which re-direct to murena.io. Just to check, I logged out, then logged in again to murena.io- the Delete option is still there, so I don’t think that’s the problem either

Hi,

I can see the delete function in all of these browsers on MacOS Big Sur version 11.7

I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit …

As an aside, I now have a Gitlab account setup to report this issue, however my user name was automatically setup using my full name, which I have now changed, but understand that this new user name is just a redirect, and anyone can claim my original (and unsued) name space at a later date, which is not ideal, is there anyway to continue using the account without that risk ?
It is suggested that setting up a new account might be required, but how can I avoid my Full Name being used as part of the user name.

I have not given any feedback, as there has been nothing to report I’m afraid, although the settings windows has changed in layout, delete is still missing …
