Feedback for v2.4

. Fairphone 4
. Stable
. Not rooted
. Previously 2.3-T Stable

Everyone threw themselves at the update at the same time (including me), saturating the servers.

All in all, everything looks great!

I was also able to update my daughter’s GS290. I had to “resume the download” several times this evening, but in the end everything went smoothly too.

Thank you so much!

After some initial difficulties (as reported here), the update worked perfectly! Version 2.4t makes a great impression on my Murena Fairphone 5! Many, many thanks for my now three years with the fantastic, google-free /e/OS! I’m looking forward to my photo tours with the new camera app!

Everything is fine.
Thank you very much!
Last month I was very happy about the Fairphone camera update. The Fairphone camera is so much better than the open camera. Now the TOF sensor is used to focus precisely even in dark.

Really loving Fairphone camera app! :vulcan_salute:

Thank you very much!

I am surprised how little battery is consumed by the murena one. The battery lasts for more than one week!

Hello.
Update to 2.4-t…official via OTA now (4.Oct.) is now working.
Firstly, I have no faults.

If you use the Fairphone Photo camera app and display a photo directly from the app in the gallery, you are repeatedly asked whether you only want to use the gallery app once or always. Even if you select always, this question appears the next time you start the app.
Unfortunately, the storage folder for the Fairphone camera app can only be selected for internal or SD card but not a folder.

Many thanks to the eOS team, you are doing a great job!

Google Pixel 5 Redfin

Pixel5 (purchased in /e/-shop) not rooted.
It was upgraded with 2.4-t stable release (updated from 2.3 to 2.4 (2.4-t-20240924436695-official-redfin) with e_redfin-user 13 TQ3A.230901.001 eng.root.20240924.092115). Note that stable → official from 2.3 → 2.4

the upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4 took only 45 mn with 1 reboot.
All app are working fine.

The camera issue blur (described here ) is still here.

Vendor: Murena
Device Name: Fairphone 5
Codename: FP5
Previous version: 2.3T

Experienced the download problems described above but I kept hitting resume and it eventually got there.

Ever since the upgrade though Mull won’t run. It just crashes out straight away. Have tried force stop, clear cache and reboot but the problem remains. Mull is latest version in App Store - 129.0.2. No problems on previous versions of eOS

My Mull runs as expected.

Sorry for this question…
How do I determine which camera app is really used? I switched the setting (was off before), rebooted the phone but the camera app looks exactly the same … ?

Lots of improvements, I can now get RAW pictures with the camera, and generally seems to work well except for one obnoxious issue: Every time I lock the screen and unlock back, I need to reenable 90hz mode for the display, otherwise the screen is very jittery. I’d appreciate some help on how to fix this.

Received the “2.4 update available” notification yesterday. Since then, the download process is constantly failing following the same pattern :

  • downloading a few MB at very low speed
  • sometimes displaying the estimated time left (varying from 1 second to 13 hours), sometimes not.
  • stopping with “Dowloading error” without any details
  • have to press “Retry” so the download will resume
  • rince and repeat

So far, the download has progressed to 532MB (on a total of 1.6GB) since yesterday.

There is apparently no kind of network issue otherwise : the problem is the same whether I’m using 2.4Ghz wifi, 5Ghz wifi, no matter the distance to the access point. The problem is also the same when using 4G network (urban area, very good signal).

Any other download works perfectly fine, I was able to download a few big files from various sources at full speed.

For additional informations, I’m located in France and using Orange network, both for 4G and wifi access.

Any similar experience yet ?

Exactly the same here, so I guess the problem is on server side. But this morning the download succeeded and the installation was then no problem.

I have this problem also. I’m using a reliable home wifi network and the phone is right next to the router. It’s a FP4 running the latest version of 2.3 and I got the update message last night. I’m getting nothing but the “Download failed, check internet connection” error message.

Would be obliged if someone could post here when this is fixed, so I can get a forum notification.

I had to re-install, works ok now

FP5 not rooted: 2.3-t 20240820 → 2.4-t 20240924436695-official-FP5

I experienced the same non-availability and very slow & frequently interrupted download as reported above.
In total the download took >1 day and a lot of patience to be finally completed. :face_exhaling:

Otherwise everything works fine - thanks to the devs!

Yes, I am currently even completely unable to download the update to 2.4-t stable onto my FP3 as well, regardless of the connection.

I am unable to download the update from 2.3 → 2.4 via the Settings → Updater. I get the error message:

“The download failed. Please check your internet connection and try again later.”

I have tried with WiFi, mobile data, and disabling the e/OS/ advanced privacy settings, restarting my phone, and waiting 24 hours. My region is Sweden if that makes a difference.

I just guessed. Perhaps other FP5 users (my own device running /e/OS is an FP3+) can give feedback if and how they made the Fairphone camera app available on their devices.

Fairphone 4 with e/OS/ installed with Easy Installer a couple updates ago (2023) and it’s the first time I have the message “The download failed. Please check…”.
