Install e/os on an old Redmi note 5 (whyred) and Redmi note 12 Pro+ (rubypro_eea)

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

Hello,

Following my previous question (see Redmi Note 5 topic for e/os installation) for which I had only link for Lineage OS I ask again : can I install e/os on it ? If yes where is the documentation knowing that I am not a specialist of these matters ?

Same question for my Redmi Note 12 Pro +

With AID64 Icould know the name of the 2 devices :

  • Redmi note 5 is whyred,
  • Redmi note 12 Pro+ is rubypro_eea

Hoping to have good news from you.

:slightly_smiling_face:

I made an unofficial build for Redmi Note 5

Not fully sure but this should run on the Redmi Note 12 Pro

Thanks.

As I said, it will be my first tentive for such a job !

Is there any tuto I can follow, first for my redmi note 5 ?

@piero

Merci / Thanks

As Isaid I am not very skilled for these manipulation, so I would like you or somebody guide me a little bit more because the tutorials are so completethat I am a little bit lost.

This why I use first my old Redmi Note 5 whyred

On my redmi note 5 whyred :

  • I am on the developper mode
  • I have downloaded ““Official TWRP App” but I do not understand how to continue with

On my PC under Linux Zorin Os based on Ubuntu

  • I have downloaded e-3.1.4-t-20251007-UNOFFICIAL-whyred.zip

But now : what to do ?

This is useless…
What you need is Download twrp-3.7.0_9-0-whyred.img

That’s a good thing.

First, install fastboot on your PC

On my redmi Note 5 whyred ?

OK, done and unzipped in my home directory.

And now ?

@piero Le drapeau français pourrait signaler que nous pourrions converser dans cette langue, ce serait peut-être plus simple pour moi

Yes, but this forum must remain understandable to everyone…

Je n’aime pas la procédure exigée par Xiaomi pour débloquer le bootloader.

N’hésite pas à demander si tu rencontre des difficultées

Quelle est la réponse pour

fastboot version

?

Yes, understtood; we will continue in english, my experience could be useful to someone else. I saw that there was a french translation for the tuto, I will help me with.

Yes, I began but encountered difficulties once fastboot installed.

Yes, I hope this will help me to continue.

Wher can I find this information ?

Windobe, Linux, macOS ?

Windaube, par exemple;

.

What could go wrong

[Solved] Windows does not see my phone in Fastboot mode because needed drivers are not correctly installed

Tip :

if not properly "installed in your path” as explained in Installing adb and fastboot on Windows PC ,
simply add ./ at the beginning of all your adb or fastboot commands,
it will use the version included into the relative folder (the latest) instead of the one installed on your system

.

Ou, plus pratique à utiliser que “cmd”, tu peux installer “git-bash” que tu pourras ouvrir depuis l’emplacement de ton choix avec le clic droit.

On your PC, install Git-bash, and confirm all preselected options.

download the “platform-tools for windows”, and just extract the .ZIP, not more.

open the newly created “platform-tools” folder in your file manager, then

  • use the right clic of your mouse, and choose open Git Bash here.

you will get something like :

.

Thank you for all these explanations. I’ll check to see if my device is in fastboot mode, because I can start my Redmi Note in fastboot mode (a little man with a chapka on his head).

But the problem is that when I try to unlock my Redmi Note 5, I don’t receive the code that is sent to my phone! It’s frustrating, and it’s not ending up in my spam folder!

That is a very specific blocker.

Suggestions. Have you read and re-read the unlocking tool instructions? Do you have one only registration of your phone on the unlock tool. When your correctly registered phone is connected to the unlocking account (in my experience) you should see a very accurate status report on the state of your phone and the unlocking transaction.

I’ll check but they announce sending a code to my real phone number !

The “rules” of the unlock tool do not seem to be able to tolerate a “second” phone number, or more specifically a different SIM in the system. I am fairly certain messages will only go back to the registered “device and SIM” combination. I think even use of the SIM in a different device during the “countdown” can be a blocker and might cause a silent fail.
