OS Upgrade - Volunteer Testers Required - Next Set of Devices for OS Upgrade

I’m only sort of, kind of, thinking about it. Being set in my ways, when it comes to operating systems, I’ve had no interest in Pie or Q. I barely tolerate Oreo, mostly because I’m a multibooter and do things in a certain way since KitKat.
The Mata, ofc, only runs one OS. Been on /e/ soon after I got it a year ago. Given that there’s no external SD I’ll have to get around to saving/backing up/offloading everything before I consider helping out with a Pie build.

I’m thinking about it but I’ll have to give up my normal way of doing things (Xposed and GravityBox, mostly for navbar customization). I don’t do Magisk, period, so EdXposed is out. But hey, I believe in /e/ so I guess I can make the sacrifice.

hi everyone, I am a Fairphone 2 owner, I never used /e/ at the moment because I am running Ubuntu Touch on it but with my PinePhone being delivered soon I plan to put Ubuntu Touch on the pinephone and switch my FP to /e/. I am an advanced user so I will gladly put a per-release version if that can help. Please tell me how to do it.

Hi @fla you can send in your details as per what is mentioned here and help with the testing efforts. We have about 10 volunteers helping out but extra hands are always welcome.

I have an /e/ converted Essential PH-1 mata that I use as my only phone. I’d love to volunteer to test the Pie version, but (1) I will first need to set up Telegram and Github accounts, and (2) I’m spooked that I’ll lose the ability to continue using the phone as my only one. Without anyone promising me success, how realistic are my chances of still having a usable phone initially after the switch?

Thanks, and BTW, the PH-1 makes a superb e phone, with the ability to upgrade to Android 10 should you wish to support that version.

I used to use a PH-1 as a daily before handing it off to a family member, I used both official nougat and an unofficial pie on it and both worked perfectly for a daily phone.

The next set of devices to be tested for /e/OS upgrade are :

Essential 'Mata’ (Pie)

Xiaomi Poco F1 'beryllium’ (Pie)

S7/S7 Edge (Oreo)

Thanks to those who have already volunteered

Those interested in testing can send in these
details to testing@e.email

Tester Name (optional)

Thanks for your reply. I’ll get the ball rolling.

You will most likely have to wipe for clean install, (correct @Manoj?) so prepare for that by backing up your data.

Thanks, b3pio. Pardon my ignorance (I’m a Windows Phone refugee), but how would you suggest I back up my data? I have backed up internal storage to my computer using the excellent MyPhoneExplorer and my sms/mms data using SMS Backup & Restore, but is there any other program I should use? I have noticed the several files that e saved to my NextCloud account. Will they be usable when attempting to put back my data?

Should I assume that, since my last post wasn’t answered, you don’t need testers anymore? If not, could someone answer my last post? Thanks.

Hi @tebeliment the data you saved photos, notes etc is accessible once you log in using the pie / Oreo upgrade build. That is your data saved using your /e/ id from your nougat ROM on the ecloud.
Regarding the need for more volunteer testers we will release FP2 for all users by this weekend and then the testing for the next set of devices Poco, Mata and S7 , S7(Edge) will start.
If you have one of these device you can send in your details.
FP2 as mentioned we have stopped the testing.

@Manoj, what are the reasons to upgrade to 8-Oreo for Samsung Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge, while the Fairphone FP2 gets an official 9-Pie upgrade build and the 9-Pie migration is tested for Essential ‘Mata’ as well as Xiaomi Poco F1 ‘beryllium’?

The reason is we will try to get the upgrade for S7 delivered OTA in testing. If it works well then the same upgrade process can be modified for other devices. Right now we need to manually flash the upgrade OS. So it is a step by step process first to Oreo and then if everything works to Pie.

Anyone willing to Test the /e/OS Essential Mata Pie build can download the ROM here

Need to know the following :

  • Does the mata require to be flashed with the stock Pie ROM before flashing /e/ if yes which version of mata Pie Stock
  • TWRP version required to flash the mata
  • Any installer used to flash the mata stock

Update on the Poco and tissot:

We expect to release the official Poco Beryllium and MiA1 tissot Pie official build this coming week.

Will share the next set of devices to be upgraded tested by Monday 24, Feb 2020

Please note: Only users who have experience of flashing their devices with stock and /e/OS ROM’s need to volunteer for the testing.

Leeco le 2 officially supports pie on lineage os! Why /e/ on the Oreo?

This upgrade list was made some time back and never got a chance to update it.
Is the official LOS Pie build working Ok on the LeEco Le 2 S2 ?
Let me know and I can check if we can have the Pie version instead of the Oreo one.
