I have been out of the /e/ world for a while and having trouble catching up.
I have a couple of these from when I was helping with testing. Mine is at 1.8.1 and the upgrade screen says it is the latest version. My wife’s phone is at 1.0 but “No new updates found”. is there no more OTA at least to get hers to my version or later.
I see there are newer versions for this device. what is the best way to upgrade? can i just sideload the zip or do I have to redo the recovery? or the easy-install?
There is no Easy Installer for lake and no OTA Android Version Upgrade [1]. The reason for “missing builds” is a server outage; please update yourself from the Development Updates here is a recent fragment.
… however in cases like yours, as you observed, current builds are fully available, “historical” builds are missing.
If still on Android 10 (Q) prepare yourself for a fresh install Install /e/OS on a Motorola Moto G7 Plus - “lake” including format data. If you still have Android 11 (R), less certain, Format data perhaps not a requirement but good practice. “Jumping” multiple Android versions carries increased uncertainty whether dirty upgrade will be “all fine”. Note, the linked “dirty upgrade” method was based on new build packaging starting from Android 13 (T) where now vendor firmware parts (blobs) are included for many devices / builds.
Thank you aibd! This is a very comprehensive answer if not the answer I was hoping for.
I have R on there now. I was helping with the testing team for Lake and River for R and version 1.0. I got a few OTA updates since. I use the phone as a second phone or temporary one when traveling in Europe but my wife uses hers as a daily driver.
I saw something about upgrading from a SD card which would be easier. can I just put the zip on a sd card and have twrp install from there?
Thanks again. This community and people like yourself is why I love /e/
