Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 - GINKGOIN

Has official rom been released yet? I’ve been waiting for it to install on my device, but did not find any info and it’s not on the official rom page either. Any news on the release date?

Well I don’t anymore want to say something which is not more or less official, or has even slightly possibility it was missunderstood… So maybe it’s worth to follow the answer since I asked at here:

I also did notice e0.14q build available for ginko at this forum. I might add link to that later, but at least from link above there will probably be answer what is current state and is newer unoffucial still the way to go. So answer directly hopefully from there.

Edit: Just in case, here’s link to thread with 0.14 build

We want support for Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T and 8! LineageOS has generic version for these both, 8 and 8t, only difference is NFC?

How did you install banking apps etc?

I added my steps at the end of this how-to:

Like I said, I don’t know are there some downsides with those steps I mention, compared to the original how-to. But that works for me.

I’ve been testing this for a couple (?) of weeks now and it is rock solid and stable. I’ve been able to install banking apps and after the OTA update also one of the banking apps that did not work before the update.

This is really excellent! Thank you all involved.

How did you do that ?

OTA update came through /e/ system updater. It suggested new update and installation was a breeze. OTA

Hum ok I didn’t know that this device is officially supported ! And today I re-checked and it’s on the list …

Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 8 (Gingko) and I only use Linux (Mageia) on my PC.
So I can’t use the Mi Unlock app for Windows.
I’ve found the XiaoMITools V2 which is a .run file for Linux use.
Have someone already used it to unlock a Xiaomi booloader ?
Thanks for your answers.

Hi @Dan29, I am a XiaoMITools V2 user. I wonder if you were going to ask how to open a .run file?

./XMT2_Linux_20.7.28.run --help

It did work fine, or perhaps you wanted to say something quite different!?

Hi @aibd and thanks for your answer,
I have opened XMT2 , connected to my MI account .
My device is well detected, but when I select it, it turns in fastboot mode, and XMT2 does not detect it anymore.

The whole verification procedure is very precise!

From memory there is a variation of two-factor authentication which has to happen early on, have you seen that stage?

… but hang on, you are still unlocking it?

Not yet unlocked, fastboot is “inactive”, I expect.

Yes fastboot is inactive . On the smartphone screen there is only a logo and “Fastboot”. I am obliged to press the power button for many seconds to reboot.

“From memory there is a variation of two-factor authentication which has to happen early on” . Do you mean to login my MI account ?

Hi, @Dan29, sorry this conversation started with me making a guess, perhaps you should tell me what you did so far!

Hi @aibd , for now, I have done nothing important : I only put my phone in developper mode, usb debug enabled, dowloaded and launched `/XMT2_Linux_20.7.28 . The phone was detected by it, but when I select the device, the connexion is broken.
Not any change made to the smartphone.

Hi @Dan29

When you go to your Mi account, has the countdown started?

If not, did the phone have on board a SIM that you can afford to leave in place for a week (or 2 has been reported)?

When I unlocked I was uncertain exactly what happened, but from reading the time/date the countdown started, I felt it was the second attempt that was successful!

I seem to remember something like you report, in that the script probably interrogated the device and got it to release its full identity, including fastboot mode identity, OTA back to Xiaomi.

I have not seen something like that.

I am sure it will be fine to try again! Perhaps check the SIM has full strength to transmit + receive!

I also added an avatar to my Mi account, so that I had some further validation that I was connecting to my account!

I had to read the instructions >6 times, but that is me!
