Upcoming releases

Ongoing development tasks

  • A web based version of Easy Installer to be released replacing the existing desktop version. At present the team is working on the development and testing of this tool.

  • /e/OS GSI on T or Android 13. The team is working to see if GSI can be made available OTA. An app to detect what works and what does not work with the GSI

  • Development work in progress on /e/OS U or Android 14. List of devices to get the U build will be shared.

  • ETAs for all activities will be shared.

 

Previous 5 releases & user feedback

:warning: Do not post test build information on the forum :warning:

  • Please do not post information or links to /e/OS test builds on the forum.

  • These builds are as yet untested and under development and may in some cases cause user devices to soft brick.

  • Such information can confuse other users who do not see these builds in the updater.

  • Remember not all users who come to this forum are experts in installing and formatting custom ROMs and can end up seriously damaging their devices by trying out these test builds

  • If you are genuinely interested in helping with the testing activities and also understand how to fix and do some minor level of testing on custom ROMS, you are welcome to join the testing team

  • As part of the testing team you can share your comments on the dedicated testing telegram channel.

:point_right: Users who use the /e/OS or Murena cloud for free will have this forum, gitlab and telegram channels to report issues and find solutions. This would include those who face issues with Gitlab accounts or cloud access.

How to check the NextCloud version click here

You can find the complete documentation and current NC version under Login – Murena >> NextCloud xx user documentation. The xx should show the latest version.

  • Another way to check the current version is to check the NextCloud scan link and input https://murena.io this should display the current version number as well as the security level.

:information_source: Please note if MurenaCloud patch number is not the same as the NC patch number, the rating would show up as bad \U0001f610 This is not exactly a problem. We do not immediately jump to the next NC patch as soon as it is released. We first test it and then set out with the deployment.

Testing

Our definition of an OS OTA upgrade

Usually for /e/OS ROMs to upgrade the OS you have to do the following

  • If available download the correct OS build from the supported device list

  • For some devices you also need to download the stock ROM from the vendor site.

  • Take a back up of your data

  • First install the Stock ROM

  • Next install the /e/OS ROM. Here you can take help of the install guides available on our documentation site.

  • If required apply the backups you downloaded before starting the whole process

An alternate to this tedious process is where we offer the user the option to upgrade the OS OTA. This option is available for stable device builds only.

This process is easy for the user but requires a lot of development and testing effort.

Gigaset GS290

  • We have stopped the sales of the Gigaset GS290 on the eSolutionsShop as the vendor has stopped production of the device. We will continue support for existing users.

  • Vendors whose phones we sell on our eSolutions Store do not directly sell /e/OS flashed devices.

  • The vendors only sell their devices with their own stock ROM.

  • To get pre flashed /e/OS phones, you have to purchase them from the eSolutions Shop.

Good morning Manoj, could you clarify the status of the S8/S8+ OTA Upgrade OS build?

You mentioned it above but in the release notes is nothing (atleast I couldn’t find it)

The following would also need to be updated I think:

Waiting for the team to come in to get an update.

Update: The S8/S8+ OTA upgrade to S will not be coming with v2.4 as we still have a bug with audio via bluetooth - to be resolved. Will update in case of any futher inputs.

release notes mention the change in name conventions for eOS versions (dev → community and stable → official).
Not sure if this is already mentioned anywhere: in order to make the latest versions available the links to the eOS-downloads in the install-guide-pages need fixing now that the naming of addresses has changed as well
Might apply for update-links as well (?)

Just realized this renaming of adresses obviously happens in the background and might meanwhile cause confusion.

The names stable and dev at the build server level has not been changed. The changes for now are at the documentation level. Any change at the server file level can break a lot of things and that is not what we want. But we definitely get the point and will be making the changes at the file level.

As device or services owners they would automatically get helpdesk support. Will pass on this suggestion to the management.

That’s a good question. There are various latest images for startle:
Stable: v2.3

Is this the reason why I am still on v2.3 with no update?

can´t say if that is an implication of the above described situation.
it should depend on where the phone looks it up, might be, see here:
https://ota.ecloud.global/api/v1/herolte/official/
vs.
https://ota.ecloud.global/api/v1/herolte/stable/

But I can say for sure that both of my 2.4-updates (herolte + sunfish) happened in that (seemingly short period of time) whilst the latest versions (official) could still be found under the stable-page (as linked to via the install guides)

I am sure this will be sorted soon

edit: meanwhile has been fixed from what I see

Hi,
I have un update for my FP3 stable, I find it via the updater but I have a download error message always appearing. Doesn’t work from Wifi nor Network provider

I get the same error, maybe it is too soon to be trying to update?
