[LIST] Devices we plan to upgrade to /e/OS S

The following devices from our Supported List will receive an upgraded to /e/OS S
Please note:

  • This is the first draft
  • There will be additions and deletions from this list
  • We expect to release /e/OS S or Android 12 by end of October :crossed_fingers:
  • The plan is to release the upgrade build for these devices in sets of 20 (?) on a monthly basis instead of weekly releases
  • This will be a manual upgrade for users. Which means the build will not automatically upgrade the existing build to S. Users will have to download and then flash these builds.
  • Some of the devices we sell / sold on the Murena shop will get the S OS upgrade via OTA for example the s8

Update 9 Nov /e/OS ‘S’ builds have been released. You can find the download links on the Documentation site.

Urgency is to publish builds for devices that already run android 12 as stock OS.

When done, it will be the time to upgrade other devices supported by /e/os
but abandonned by their vendors in previous android versions.

Is /e/OS already buildable for android12? If so what is the branchversion for it?

At present, it is under the final stages of development and testing. Will share links with all once we are sure it works as expected.

@Manoj What about Fairphone 2?

As mentioned in the initial post

Thanks. So Waiting for additions - hopfully no deletions

@Manoj Little question, do you mean “s9” instead of “s8” ? On the murena shop, I don’t see Samsung s8 for sale.

Thanks

Some of these devices were sold earlier. We will continue to support and upgrade where possible.

Ok thank you very much for this precision.

if you’re curious why some legacy devices can’t get /e/ S or lineage 19: it’s their vendor kernels being to old to offer a required subsystem. Quoting from https://lineageos.org/Changelog-26/

This is due to AOSP’s removal of iptables in favor of eBPF. […] … only devices with Linux kernel 4.9 or newer have the needed capabilities to make use of eBPF. […]. Those of you on a 4.4 kernel, fear not, a backport has been created, but for devices using kernel versions 3.18 and below, this may be the end of the road.

Some old SoCs have increasingly good mainline support, but still a niche topic to run this with AOSP. Could be a way to leave the confines of an old vendor kernel some day.

Interestingly there are Android 12L / 19.1 versions for old devices…

Tribute to html6405!

yep
, but compared to unofficial ports that rely on a 4.4+ vendor kernel the older ones cannot have again an official release and incompatabilities have a higher probability (where iptables /ebpf is used: in networking)

Yes, but still they are working and have network traffic ;- )

sure, it’s still worth to build unofficial trees if feedback is things work “good enough”

Some of the official builds hardly achieve that ;- )

No Teracube 2e upgrade?

Oneplus 5 and 6 models and then 9 models, but no 7 or 8 models. Why is that??

Hee Manoj, do you know from the top of your head which is the smallest phone on this list?
